I knew this video existed, but never got to see it. Finally, after 33 years. This was probably our best show of the year, the first show we put the hesitation in on the walkover. I'll never forget the reaction to this. Good memories.

First time I have ever seen it also... brings back some great times - hard to believe it has been 33 years ago...

Hi Chuck and Scott! We were sooooo lucky to have made finals that year. I think it was the first time we did not moan anymore about politics in DCI. Scott Bloom - Mello 81-82, Flag 83

We are all old men now, some not with us anymore. This brings back so many GREAT memories. Thank you everyone involved. Watching this makes me feel young again.

I marched that same day in 1981 in Montreal with the SkyRyders Drum and Bugle Corp. This video of the Caviliers is a great memory to this season. We battled with them nightly in competition. Great memories. Thanks for posting!

Yep. I was there with ya, Stephen. It was heartbreaking to make DCI Midwest finals two weeks earlier, then miss this International finals, coming in 14th place. Beautiful memories, though.

Thank you so much for posting this impossible-to-find footage. I'd say we marched better than I remembered.

Wasn't aware of Canadian groups when I played as a teen. Enjoying the formations, a lot of flags and the good sound.

Our drill guy that year was Ralph Pace. He came from one of the big California corps I think. He was really tough, but made us better marchers, for sure.
@johnflorio30525 жыл бұрын
Ralph Pace was definitely an odd duck -- but he was an East Coast corps guy as I remember. Some of the drill designs he came up with in 1980 and in 1981 were ahead of their time.

@@johnflorio3052 He worked with us- Spirit of Atlanta in 1980 and our drill scores kept us out of first place that year. Tied for first in drums and placed 2nd in brass. Not blaming him but that caption contributed to our 4th place finish. Just saying that IF our drill caption had been on par with the remaining captions, the Blue Devils would have one less title today. And yes he was an odd duck as I remember it. Was always yelling "TODAY!" so we'd run back to our places as we worked on drill. We didn't run.

It's a real, drum and bugle Corps., up until, approximately the mid- 80s, then slowly it evolve into a marching band, today is a full-blown marching band, no longer a real drum and bugle Corps.
