Fun fact: Knuckles' theme from Sonic 3 is also the drumbeat in the Sonic 3 Miniboss theme. Interestingly, both of these songs were replaced in Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

I imagine they were replaced because they probably were both among the Sonic 3 tracks composed by Michael Jackson.

The interesting thing about that is a lot of the Sonic 3 tracks were also replaced in the PC release of Sonic 3 and Knuckles (Called the Sonic and Knuckles Collection if I remember), likely for the same reason

The songs were most likely replaced due to the fact that the port uses the .midi format for its music, which doesn't play nicely with real sounds. Michael Jackson's beatboxing was used in Knuckles' theme and in the miniboss theme is Sonic 3, and since that didn't translate well to midi, they used the 3K rendition of the songs.

@@PieStudios I can debunk that. The music that plays when on the competition mode's menu was replaced in the PC version and that had the same standard samples found in Angel Island and everything (that wasn't tied to MJ and his team) such as the drums.
