First time "calfer" Sandy, gave birth to a healthy Pure-bred Guernsey bull calf this morning. I had to help her by putting baling string around the calf's front legs and pulling with the "calf puller" tool. Once the calf comes out it is imperative to get the cow up and walking around. If she doesn't get up right away it is possible for her to prolapse her uterus, what we dairymen call "pushing out her womb". Also, swelling can occur in her hips to where she won't be able to get up.
