Anther muddy walk but not quite what you'd expect to find in Singapore. Abandoned cars that look like something from a horror movie set, glass bottles and other pottery buried beneath years of mud and vines as the jungle takes over the history.
We passed many graves of the bukit brown cemetery and found so much beauty in the area when we looked past the vines. Beautiful tiles covered with mud revealed pretty scenes of mountains and boats when cleaned. Photographs on the headstones were common and we had a go at figuring out the Chinese characters to understand a little more.
We continued on our way to try and find some famously named "avatar trees" and the newer area of Bukit Brown Cemetery. The bugs were against us and after getting a little lost deep in the jungle we thought we should play it safe before it got dark and make our way back.
An adventurous day full of suprises!

It is very beautiful. I love to imagine what Singapore would have looked like many (or not so many!) years ago.Trying to get through the dense jungle, making a home from the land around sometimes.

Oh gosh that would be a very different experience in the dark. Lots of things to trip over and I think the noises you'd hear would be quite unsettling as the night creatures come out.

I got caught in the rain the nest day with my trainers so that kind of washed them clean! Aspen's shoes could be washed in the shower. I think Milo's and Jonty's are still 'drying' by the front door haha until the next adventure.

yes there was a kampong car workshop there, up to the early-mid 90's I believe. It's at the end of bukit brown just at the side of lornie road and up close to the expressway right? we used to be able to see it from a double-decker bus travelling on lornie road... also look up... there were durian trees there too...
@WONDERLUSTworld

Oh thanks for sharing. We did think something like that might have been around but it seemed so out of place going by what else was near by. we saw some durian on the floor, eaten by all the bugs around and possibly the odd monkey or two.

That was a ramble! It’s exciting to explore and amazing finds too. I understand why derelict cars look scary but so do the gravestones. I love Milo’s skills at reading the dates too. Yes I saw the banner at the end. Have a lovely week

Good job spotting the banner - the colour also changes each week! Movies and books often use those settings for more scary stories so I guess it's something we grow up with seeing and then taking on. Thanks for getting in touch. Have a good weekend.

WOW that is warm. Today Aspen and I were sitting our balcony having breakfast and I had to put a jumper on and I felt chilly! The rainy season here is making it quite cool. The mud dried pretty fast as we walked back to the but stop, we all just stamped our feet to get as much mud off as we could could and wiped any wet stuff off on the grass.

Yes thats a Norwich kit! He doesn't really follow football that much. Do you? He has the kit as that is where he, and his sister and Myself (Millie) was born. It's also where Jonty and I met. When Milo was born my friend bought him his first Norwich City kit and since then we buy him a new one when he outgrows it.

@@WONDERLUSTworldUnmistakable whiff of it, at least in this video. Not uncommon that ‘third culture’ kids try different accents on for size as they try to fit in with their peers. It’s a fascinating skill! (American and British accents tend to predominate… a numbers game, surely. I’m partial to a strong Australian accent myself. 🤣 Then there’s the hybrid ‘international school accent,’ another kettle of fish.)
@WONDERLUSTworld

Working in an international school we hear it a lot. I do find language and accents very fascinating. My sister has lived in Australia for many years and has adopted the way of talking, phrases and accent. She now lives in Peru and speaks Spanish a lot.

Years ago, there were farms & kampungs around the Lornie road/McRitchie area. My grandaunt had a pigfarm there. These were all cleared by the govt as part of the efforts to clean up S'pore river. During durian season, you can see many cars parked along Lornie road/McRitchie. The durian trees have since been all cleared.
