The device prints dots and dashes on to the paper-tape using black ink. It's advantage over what came before is in its ability to record the message. With other telegraphs, the operator was the recorder and could so easily make mistakes, especially if he was busy. You could call this device an early teleprinter.

was anything actually being printed on or stamped into the paper? It would have been nice to see.

It was, but it required very precise regulation and a large amount of fresh OIL mascara

This is really interesting but it looks older than l920-30. This is how the original Morse telegraph worked. Operators were supposed to read the tape, not listen to the clicks. But the operators soon learned to read the clicks and stopped looking at the tape. At first Morse was horrified because he thought it would be inaccurate. But when he saw that they were accurate, he required all operators to learn to read the clicks.

great attention! Then even buzzers were assembled, I even made one of them once. Only the frequency was relatively low and the tone unstable ... Ot mechanics ...

I didn't know that, thank you for posting. More of us than we realise our inextricably intertwined with these early communication systems. Again thank you for posting your notes........

I’m rebuilding the back fence on my dad’s property. I found an old glass Whitall Tatum no.1 insulator. It has a couple of small chips from falling between the old brick BBQ and the retaining wall but other than that it’s perfect. I thought man what a rare find for residential property.

A stylus or some such device would 'mark' the paper tape. In latter teleprinter terminology, mark & space would indicate pulses of current. eg single current, a mark would indicate 60mA pulse of 20ms duration for 50 baud teleprinter machine, & absence of 20ms current pulse called a 'space'. In double current (polar) signalling mark & space represent polarity of current pulse: + or - 60mA.

My name is Leze and I'm reaching out to you for permission to use your sound in a play. Should I be granted the permission, I intend to use the sound as a cue for a university (University of Saskatchewan) play, Unity (1918), from June 17-19,2021, for the Greystone Theatres 75th anniversary. Thanks for your time!

Ok electromagnet, clock mechanism... we know about it. As we see writer starting manually, by operator. But how operator know when he should start writer? If we start writer when we see receiving , we lost some first symbols ... May be they use some "command code" for operator to start writer
@frycz66
@frycz66 3 жыл бұрын
The operator had an electric bell connected to the telegraph line, and there was a switch. When he heard the bell, he switched the line to the telegraph. After receiving the telegram, he switched back to the electric bell.

Olaboga.
