I basically gave up on all of my new recording gear. That stuff sucks. I'm selling everything and just doing what is fun for me, jamming to Hendrix records and hoping the Hendrix police don't arrest me.
I may have a few videos coming: One of with the new Q Pickups from Croatia, 1964 Formvars. And maybe a low profile cord for upside down Strat players from Ampturco Guitar Werks.
I am using both the 1960 Bassman, 1964 Super Reverb, my favorite Sabbadius Maui (Rainbow) fuzz and the #1001 (68) Funky-Vibe with my speed pedal, and my 1964 Strat with a new Musikraft Reverse CBS Headstock neck.

There have been a few times when I get excited figuring out some of his tricks. I do notice that he knew the pentatonic scale like no-one else. He was a pioneer. Like Paul McCartney said 'He just knew a little more than us."

A good fuzz, overdrive pedal and a 40 watt tube amp of some sort will get you there. Plus, maybe the preamp of an Echoplex thrown in.

@@millstap I hear those sounds on Live in maui and another live record that i can’t think of, he didn’t seem to get that loud and insane in the studio though at least not to the extent of getting those spaceship noises. You really can spend a lifetime analyzing his body of work

Jimi didn’t make it to his mid sixties either brudda As you get older your back, shoulders and knees wear out. Good luck with your health in your life span brudda.
@millstap
@millstap Жыл бұрын
@@hoppes9658 Actually I wish I would stand up. It changes the arm and hand position quite a bit and lets you play a little closer to the bridge which Jimi did a lot. I just got lazy over the years and am so use to sitting. I do remember when I was gigging that I would have to practice the songs standing up for a few days before a gig just so I could get used to it again.
@millstap
@millstap Жыл бұрын
@@curtisphilumalee1447 Lol. Jimi was pretty healthy but yeah, late sixties, he'd probably be sitting down too like BB had to do. If you don't have to have that weight on your shoulder, why do it. But then, sitting has its problems too with the human neck. We're all slowing deteriorating.

I have a full house of grandkids this week so I haven't had a chance to install them yet. I'm looking forward to it. If they are anything like my original 1964's with a little more clean power, they will be amazing. I will post a video in the next 1-1/2 weeks hopefully.

@@millstap Hi. What made you go for the Q pickups over say Lollars? You've got a great ambient/reverb sound in that room. Thanks.
@millstap
@millstap 6 ай бұрын
@@dmillerme7 The Q Pickups were recommended to me by a pro in Italy and he got me a special deal. Plus, I wanted to try something new. They are nice pickups. I'm starting to notice the nuances between the Q's, Rumpels, and the vintage 1964's. The 64's usually win but the others have more punch and drive. It's definitely nice to have the variety. They all sound slightly different. I'm starting to focus more on their balance between strings and am realizing that that can be pretty important on which strings have prominence. I'm not sure how to buy pickups based on balance though but I think that was the concept the Lollar pushed with the flat poles. I don't use the Lollars because the set is made for a Strat that has a deeper bridge pickup route and won't fit into a vintage style route. They will only fit in my Nash Strat. I guess I could try just the middle and neck pickups in the future if I wanted.
@dmillerme7

@@millstap I have a '75 strat that needs something. I was thinking of the Lollar blonde or 64s. Not sure what kinda route I got in the strat. I"ll have to check it out. Thanks for responding. Got to have that Jimi Axis quack....
@millstap
@millstap 6 ай бұрын
@@dmillerme7 For the Woodstock sound, I really love the Rumpelstiltskin Experiences but they are meant for really cranking. You get those things fired up and they sound just like it to me. They go great with a fuzz. Yes, double check the specs on any Lollars because he uses longer magnets on some bridge pickups and they usually state that they will not fit in a vintage Strat route. The longer magnets give them more power. I'm not sure I like the flat poles. I usually get a reverse vintage stagger so it emulates what Jimi would have had. My Rumpel Gypsys, Experiences, and Q's all have a reverse vintage magnet stagger.
