If you need a drive pin in a pinch - use a shaft from a Dremel tool that matches the drive pin diameter (most do fit it well) and cut to fit with the dremel tool! I have done this and it worked well. Do not overtighten the nut or you may snap the drive pin (I have done that too ha ha). You can order the drive pins thru ebay for cheap - they match the minn kota smaller size drive pins for trolling motors (same company). Use something like Corrosion X or aquashield grease for the pin and the seals (you must use grease, not spray or oil - you also have to find out if the grease is safe for rubber/plastic so it does not degrade the seals or prop plastic. OMG GLAD I RAN INTO THIS VIDEO, I HAVE USED MY OT PDL IN THE FRESH WATER ONCE ONLY. NOW I'M GOING TO OPEN IT UP AND PUT ANTI CORROSION SUBSTANCE.

Thanks for your video. Same thing happen to me when I took it apart. The pin was rusted and broke in half. I was able to get it out with wd40 and a hole punch luckily. Think I'll order a few more pins from old town in case it happens again. I have a feeling it will no matter how much anti corrosion u put.

Use Corrosion X grease - grease it well and on the seal (will not degrade seals) too. Grease your pins well - Got to drill it now.

Leave the cam alone while recording :) Shaking gave me a headache haha. Good topic though. Have a few comments: I've heard about this problem soon after I got my PDL so I disassembled everything and put everything together with a large amount of thick lithium grease. Then I sprayed the locking nut with rubberized undercoating spay used on cars (one of the posters had a hard time to remove it and had to use Dremel). I'm about to inspect my pin after one season. Will see if it helped. Oh, and the storage on drive IS not dry box.

Just FYI. I wouldn't use WD40 for rust protection on moving parts especially if it has grease as it will eat away at the grease. Use Boeshield. It's a lube and rust preventor.

Coat the shear pin with dielectric grease or anti seize, then re-insert.

What kind of corrosion spray did you use

Letdatbassknock I used the WD-40 Specialist Long Term Corrosion Inhibitor. I’m not sure how long term it will actually be... But either way, after going through what I did, I’ll be taking my prop off and reapplying regularly lol

Hmph. Disappointed in Old Town for their "zero maintenance required" stance. Any and every time you use anything in saltwater, you need to thoroughly rinse it after every use. If you skip it even once you'll likely regret it. Thanks for the video/warning/info.
