There was a miniature made of the John Blanche artwork, it's a Techpriest of the Mechanicus. The giger-style ones are by Will Rees, i once read an interview where he said they are Techpriests doing maintanence on the biomechanical veins of the Golden Throne cutting away old worn out parts. There's another piece by him with another animal skull headed Techpriest driving a weird vehicle carrying one of the psykers used to feed the emperor. I loved the chainsaw-faced one so much that i converted up my own miniature inspired by it using an old fantasy skeleton beast skull, an old marine chainsword, a body from a Corpse Cart Necromancer and some Skaven and Mechanicus and even a Dark Eldar mechanical bits and pieces,.

The art of the Astartes with the 8 service studs looks to be by Bret Ewins of Johnny Nemo and 2000AD fame. He also did the comic insert, game and box art for GW's Chainsaw Warrior ( '87 ). That was the first GW product that I purchased back in '87. Good times!

It's a fun damn near unbeatable game! I've never won. You have an hour to close a warp rift in a near future New York apt. building. You lose minutes from zombie bites, chaos agent wounds, etc...

Bucket-helmet/sun visor bloke is an early adeptus terra clerk. The shoulder next to him is an arbiter. Sun visor man has an official dagger. The DMV blokes should all have daggers.

@@SnakeWorksStudio The car ownership registration buerocracy. In practice there is no org chart for the Administratum because someone in GW would need to write it. If you need an Adeptus Terra buero for a game you make one. This tends to happen more often in Dark Heresy and Inquisitor where you run around poking into the home front of the Imperium. You might need to decide who does customs inspections or how the local clinic is run.

John blanche may have retired from GW but, certainly hasnt stopped producing awesome artwork. You should check out his recent Voodoo forest art books. Hes also currently running a Kickstarter with some minitures he's designed.

Most definitely! Growing up with a lot of his art, amongst other GW artists of the time, I hold a massive amount of respect and admiration for him. Blanche probably inspired a whole generation of current and future artists as well as setting the tone for a most of the 40k lore. Grimdark is quintessentially Blanche. Also love the content mate 😁

This maybe too obvious to state, it was commentbait but ths two heads of the Eagle is one for terra one for Mars, emperors original Eagle only had the one head when he was conquering terra, oh and opening his eye to the warp or humanity's eyes

In it's irl esotheric origins the double headed eagle sybol often stands for mastery over both matter and spirit, aka the seen and the occult (unseen/hidden) which just fits the agenda of the emperor perfectly. Also there are tons of these kinds of references throughout the lore so l wouldn't be surprised if that was really their intent. I imagine old james workshop writers must have been terminally on /x/ before it was even a thing lol.

@@flatheadgg2443 Agreed. A lot of the setting has esoteric and occult knowledge hidden within its works. Hidden bits for the already knowing or those who's interest is peaked by certain names or places, symbolism and themes. Something they have seemed to turn away from these days.

@@yeahokno it is still there to some degree, mainly in the horus heresy, stuff like the crowlean hexagram on dark angels heraldry and in the galery section of the main rulebook they show off a typhon heavy siege tank named abraxas. Also they did the whole emperor's tarot deck or whatever with the release of 10th ed. but l guess that's more of a mainstream new age thing

The nubbins bit on the soldiers shoulder guard were given a gold metalic colour in coulered art and kinda remind me now of eldar soul stones.... perhaps the inspiration for the things to come..🤷

I fought against myself in wanting to comment this, because I dont want to be that guy. But that is a tech priest in the beginning, not a tech marine. That's my one nerdy nitpick. The video is great and Im glad someone is finally shining some spotlight on old school warhammer art. John Blanche and all those artists did so much for the dark and gritty atmosphere of 40k in its early days.

@@SnakeWorksStudio tempting but I'm poor, not saying anything but the truth lol, I would love to get back all the horus heresy books I've lost over the years, I never keep anything🤣, just another of my nonchalant traits, seriously tho if I were to buy anything it'd be a massive print of that cover for my wall ❤ there's actually a possibility my old copy is tucked away in a friend's mother's loft along with about 50 or more white dwarfs round about the 100 copy think I started about 48 idk, I'll never see them anyway I gave them away and thats must what typical of my attitude to possessions but do kinda miss them, maybe a hundred years from now they will be discovered and be a treasure, lucky my mum never got hold them or they'd have been landfill😆
