The thing about OWA is answering the question why not play humans. If u go the hardly any dwarves route the treeman and 1 dwarf Blitzer isn’t good enough to make up for not playing Humans. At mid TV range before everyone gets secondary skills the Dwarves allow this team to out Guard humans turning into a bashier version of humans who are a bit better at holding the centre. Yes u don’t hit with the blockers much but they are there to just get hit and to give u a better chance in the Guard wars against bash teams.
@pistah8169 Жыл бұрын
I agree you need all dwarfs, except the Runner, otherwise just play human. Treeman supported by 2 Blockers helps you tank the opponents line, so the human players of the team can owerpower one of the side of the pitch. I basically play this team as Necro. Tree and dwarfs are your Flash Golems and Zombies and humans are Werewolfs, Ghouls and Wights.

I think OWA is better than most people think after playing them for an entire tabletop league season. The key is spamming guard and control skills on dwarves and using the humans to get stuff done. You can get a ton of guard on this team easily allowing you to beat up on your opponent. Adding the catchers speed, the throwers skills, the all around greatness of the human blitzer and a fouling halfing for removal it’s a solid team as along you play them cautiously.

Very good points and some insightful stuff.

I've also been playing OWA on the tabletop for some time (and with some success), and Alexander is spot on here. Also, the Dwarf Blockers are 100% for what Andy said: standing on the line and using their armour 10 and weird skills to soak up blocks while the rest of the team gets stuff done. I also don't rate the treeman as highly as the ogre - too many things on the team are already slow, and a M2 big guy who gets rooted to the spot 17% of the time (which lasts the whole drive, basically) isn't as useful as a big guy who can move and whose failed BoneHead rolls are just for one activation. Finally, take the dwarf positionals (minus the runner, maybe) every time. Loner is a liability you have to pay attention to, but that usually just means you save your dwarf rolls for later in your turn. The Troll Slayer is amazing (Dauntless and Frenzy have saved me multiple times and are a nasty surprise for opposing big guys), the Blitzer can level into a phenomenal player (especially with Pro), and the blockers are useful. The runner is good to get later on, but only because it gives you another Sure Hands player to deploy deep to more reliably pick up the ball when you're receiving. He's not fast, but you really do need that other set of Sure Hands. Halflings are also ace - they have a solid role just by virtue of having dodge and stunty - they can get to places and be annoying in ways your other players just can't. I've even have one win me a game by being used as a last-ditch cannonball my ogre threw at a ball carrier I couldn't otherwise catch, and the halfling landed on him and took him out of the game. Basically, the Animosity and Loner (3+) are the tax you play for having a team with virtually every tool it needs available. Speed, stunties, passing, team-mate throwing, toughness, powerful offense, etc.

Thanks for all the great guides Andy! I wanna give a shout-out to the offensive part of the Biased Referee: +1 to Argue the Call. This means your coach is never sent off, but more importantly, you successfully argue the call 1/3 of the time. I think this has some legs in replacing a 2nd bribe, and maybe even replace the 1st bribe if you have a deep bench and a Sneaky Git (probably not this catcher SG though :D).

I really wanted to enjoy OWA, but they made it so darn hard. Best build is focus on the hummies but then you could play Human instead. Going Tree and Fling is fun, but then maybe go for Halflings instead as a underdog team. Confusing :D.

I ran these in league, put pro on the slayer first, definitely worth it! Used it so much to fish for pows, get pushes for surfs, dauntless etc. Randomed it on one of the dwarf blockers too, made throwing blocks with it feel soo much better.

As an argument for the tree, as they can gain spp from a perfect thrown team mate on a 5+ thanks to Strong Arm, you have a way to help level them a little faster than the Ogre. The Dwarves on the line I found useful (although hard to level) as with the tree that gives you a lot of armour and thick skull to do the best you can to ensure they don't gain any long term benefit from hitting your LoS.

I’ve played a handful of games with OWA and I think the Ogre is better if you’re using more Dwarves and the Treeman is more valuable with more humans. The costs don’t synergize very nicely, unfortunately, but the extra movement and forgiving nature of bonehead is invaluable on the ogre. While the treeman’s brute strength gives the humans some much needed bash assistance

I have two points about this team the first being I think you want to start with an Apo with this team because you have mid price 1 of players that are important to the team in league. The second is I do think that the Dwarf blockers are worth taking, to sit beside the big guy on the line and just take hits and let's your Dwarf blitzer be free to roam and give guard assists. They will at some point get a couple of cas, and an MVP allowing them to take guard and continue to lock down the center

They should put in some dwarfs an ability that for example makes them not assist a human ot halfling teammate when they are doing a block, and called "sense of superiority", except the troll slayer, that would have loner (2+). That, next to the brawler ability in dwarf linemen would make dwarfs more agressive players, which, mixed with the adaptability of humans to all playstyles some unpredictable high risk high reward plays, and other predictable low risk plays. And that would be so much fun to play.
@oier3838 Жыл бұрын
The ability would work on a 1 in a D6

I can't say for sure but I believe what the Blitzer has is a weird looking form of a medieval push dagger. Basically it's a sort of like brass knuckles that has blades on it so when you did a punch motion it would stab your opponent. I could be wrong obviously it's just my opinion.

I use the dwarf runner as a 3rd blitzer. Give him block and now he’s faster than the dwarf blitzer and just as good at blocking, also he can pick up the ball with sure hands if things get messy on offense or defense and the ball gets loose, and he can always hand the ball off to the Catcher. I’ve done this a few times pick up the ball with the sure hands dwarf hand off to catcher free catch reroll run downfield. Though he is a bit overpriced.

Fumbleroosky is an odd way around animosity! Imo the Dwarf Runner is there to execute your hand off play to your scorer, The lack of ability to re-roll a dodge reliably stinks… but as long as you use them to quarter back a hand off (or cheeky fumbleroosky maybe?) You can avoid the loner problem. Dwarf Runner -> Fumble to Human Thrower -> hand off to human catcher, is a pretty reliable running play with some massive range. It is hard to get that strong of players set up though… In that way “On the ball” and “fumbleroosky” seem like kind of fun picks and then use the dwarf runner as your primary ball collector/player to get the ball to mid field to setup your scoring run

If you concede for any reason you forfeit your MVP. If you play a hot seat match that is considered a friendly, so it would have no consequences. To level players either play the full campaign (not proper blood bowl) or play quick match against humans.

I get that you absolutely don't like this team (maybe for good reason), but there are some things you failed to mention. Your second roster is just straight up worse than a human roster, not sure why you would use it for any reason over humans. I think the real strength of this team is to have a tree, lots of guard access and then some speed. Basically on D you can hold the center which can really dictate the match.
@AndyDavoBloodBowl Жыл бұрын
In an ideal world, yes you can get guard and sure you can do that. I'm attempting to put myself in the shoes of new people, I am therefore advising people to stay away from block less STR3 turnover machines. They will eventually get guard and block, but how long will it take to get 14spp on those players to make them worth more than rookiehuman line men? Overall this roster by GW is badly designed, poorly thought out and badly implemented. I said it had to be careful else it becomes better than both humans and dwarves, but this is horriffic

I guess I like being frustrated. I take all the Dwarfs. So I have come to hate the Human Thrower. Once he made me so mad that I sent him into a pile of Black Orcs just to die. He finally did his job. The set-up I like is... Ogre, all Dwarfs, 2 halfling, 3 linemen & 3 rerolls. Then replace halflings as they die with human Blitzer & catcher. Linemen can go random general for 1st skill to fill out the team. Spread some Pro around and all of a sudden this crappy team isn't so bad. Once you have everything just right and you are rolling in money, buy a Human Thrower and feed him to the Black Orcs. I HATE that guy!

I just don"t see the point of this team. It seems everytime they have something cool, the humans teams also has it, or does it better. For example, the roster 3 here (the "exploit" one) can be applied to humans (just take an ogre instead of the treeman). The dwarves are a bad joke so you basically play a human team with less positionals. The team overall doesn't have any strenght : they will be bad at bashing / running, and bad with the ball because of only one good catcher. I just don't get it ! It's the only team where i don't get it. Their mirror team, the Chaos renegades (who aren't top tier at all), are so much better (and more fun).
@chekiefloofderg4997 Жыл бұрын
I feel like that added loner just to prevent people from turning this into a dwarf team 2.0 but with human linemen. However, why not juts adding animosity once again because on the opposite end of the spectrum, they are unbelievable painful to use and incredibly hard to level exactly because of loner. Grab the blockers and that's it to me.
@BeyondTilted Жыл бұрын
I want to like OWA, but their just a bad team. They could have made the dwarf blockers ACTUAL blockers (I call them dwarf brawlers because they don’t have block they have brawler) making them the same as long beards and the team would still be arguably worse than dwarfs or humans. You really can’t justify taking the blockers and at that point why are you even playing OWA just play humans. Either remove the loner from the dwarf players or make the blockers longboards. Both is too much. The dwarf blockers are strictly worse than long beards and they cost more. It’s sad. Edit: “don’t bring the dwarf blockers don’t bring the dwarf runner maybe dont bring the troll slayer we should have human 2 catchers and 2 human blitzers” that’s just a human team with less catchers and less blitzers lmao.
