You were in line with the top AI for about half the first game before Rome zoomed ahead. With a better map and the chance to hold people back, you could do a lot better. The problem with islands is they don't really play well with how sea movement works. You either have to have a lot of boats, or constantly un-anchor and re-anchor a few to get land units across water, and that's only if RNG give you boats in time.

You wonder how the AI got the resources in order to start a Wonder. Could it not be that as the settings show, the AI start with 'an average' of 3 cities, so if two nations started with 2 each, then Hitti could have started with 5?

It's possible. It's really hard to tell what's going on with the AI. It might be worth looking to see if there's some way to "observe" an AI only game and see how they play. I've also noticed that fewer victory points are required to win this game than the previous one, even though the settings were the same.

@@UnstableVoltage I found the online manual through the wiki, and it says " _the number of Victory Points (VPs) in the game varies slightly from one map to the next and is dependent on the total number of city sites on the map._ " Which makes sense, because cities contribute a lot to victory points. The manual actually seems decent, for how bad the help screen is in game.

The weak wonders are cheaper, and the hanging gardens require 200 wood, which can be chopped over a few turns (10 chops) and 400 stone, which you can get 200 with the stone boost, some starting ressources and just buy the rest (or found some stone somewhere).

@@ionenweaper8273 Good points, yes I see how that could happen. Outside the A.I. bonuses that are clearly stated in the settings, I honestly don't believe that the A.I. 'cheats' during the game.
