Hell yeah! I got a blue 1987 225 👍 my buddy bought it new and it sat for many years and he couldn’t get it running again and was battling cancer so I bought it from him and went through everything and it runs perfect now. My daughter drives the shit out of it, they are great wheelers for kids 👍

Lightness makes things fun! these are very light with decent power, new machines are capable but they do lack the more connected feeling a light machine has!

It took me 61 years before I was able to buy one. It is a 86 YFM 225S as I am waiting for the jug and piston in the mail. I also am doing the head and valves but will take it to a good machinist to get the valves done right. I cannot wait to get it together. Watching all kinds of KZbin so I can do it right the first time. Putting it together so it will out last me. LOL. 🤣🤣🤣

Thats great!! the smaller machines are really fun to ride, and pretty nippy too! A fresh motor will really help the power, you might be able to just hand lap the valves to get a good seal. Check out Rocks Powersports youtube channel, I really enjoy watching his classic ATV stuff, he has some good Moto4 on there as well. Mine is waiting its turn in the rebuild palace to get trail ready, but its coming soon and I can't wait to try it as well. I just did a old Yamaha Warrior, but its so tiny, I think its made for children! Best of luck on your restoration! doesn't have to be perfect, get it out for some fun!

Just for future info (did this on a bad oxidized big bear) a 50/50 mins of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner will shine old plastics. Give it two days to dry and was it then spray it and S1 and it’ll make it look brand new…

Just for the record, Yamaha started the 4 wheel Moto 4 series in 1985. Your 1989 version was the fourth year of production. NO WHERE NEAR the first edition. Sorry. I'm doing a full restoration on my 1985 Yamaha 200 cc Moto 4 which I am posting to my channel. These machines were made super tough so they just keep running forever it seems. Some parts will wear out, but nearly everything can be found either as a replacement part or from used machines disassembled for parts. You should be able to get your ATV back to decent running condition. Looks like it hasn't been abused and is in pretty good shape overall. Hope to see a video of it when you are finished.
@Kingsoupturbo
@Kingsoupturbo Жыл бұрын
Can you imagine an original one with zero suspension? not terribly comfortable! the Idea is that the moto4 is one of the first actual ATV's, not this particular one. Although the ride quality does feel like it has little suspension!

This is the first quad Yamaha built, but Suzuki sold the first four wheeler ever so Suzuki is known as first on for. nice little machine there I have an 87 big bear 354 4 x 4 full-time four-wheel-drive and it weighs about as much as a Sherman tank

You are correct of course! Those are really nice machines, I've heard to reliable as well! Honda had a really early ATV as well I think in 84, quite light compared to modern stuff. Thanks for watching!

would really like to see a continuation of this job. working on a 250 that's been kicking my butt. new cheap carb that's spitting gas and backfiring. timings good. just stuck right now. drive last year but then it just stopped
@Kingsoupturbo
@Kingsoupturbo 2 жыл бұрын
Mine has been kicking my butt too! I can't get the old carb rebuilt properly, just keeps puking gas everywhere. I've had problems with Chinese carbs as well, usually the needle and seat and float level cause the fuel barfing back out the air intake. Some of the chinese needle\seat just don't properly fit, I've read some advice on sanding it down to make a better fit as its just not machined fine enough. Best of luck, I hate Carbs, I just hate em, all my ATV's on carb are like this, I've started using water to test needle\seat\float as gas is so expensive now it just creates a anger storm when it barfs on the ground.

Very good quads. As long as you check your rear differential oil. Please make sure you use the proper lubricant as well. The rear ends are amazingly expensive if they need to be rebuilt and or replaced.

@@Kingsoupturbo No problem, I have a 1990 250 and it runs like a champ, I just redid the brakes last week. These bikes are awesome, I love mine and have no need for a bigger bike. It's fun to ride and it's tough as nails, the low range is like tractor gear low and will crawl through damn near anything. I put a winch on it but have never even had to use it, low gear and some furious wiggle and she pulls through just fine. Brakes were pretty simple but One tip is for adjusting some people say to ride around and test the brakes and that it takes forever to adjust, I found that jacking the front end off the ground and tightening until the wheels no longer free spin, then backing off just until they do, is about the right place, then you just adjust the brake lever and you're good to go, works on the back end the same too. takes just a couple minutes, then you can adjust your levers for the right tension and it's all set. Also I bought new pads, only to realize I didn't need them and that the old ones were still fine but glazed over so you could just pulls yours out and check them if they are glazed and shiny hit them with a file to get to new material and they should work like new again.
@Kingsoupturbo
@Kingsoupturbo 2 жыл бұрын
@@frogsnacks Nice! I appreciate the tips! the entire front pad\cables\lever was gone on this machine! I got new cables\lever from China and waiting on new Shoes for the drums! Looking forward to really trying it out, light machines are the most fun usually! The carb just won't come clean, but sitting for 10years full of ethanol fuel will do a number on you!

@@Kingsoupturbo Try soaking the carb in seafoam, or half seafoam half premium gas, leave it sit for a few days then try cleaning it up. I've had good luck with all kinds of stuff just by using seafoam.

I've had some poor luck with generic chinese carbs on other projects, often the intake manifold doesn't fit at all or the air cleaner, the cables don't fit, lots of hassle there, needle and seat are poor quality, jets are questionable if they're actually the size they say they are. The new plan is put this one in the ultrasonic!

Apparently Suzuki did it first in 1982, and then a couple of 6 wheeled creations even earlier then that, but the Japanese seem to have all jumped on the bandwagon for the 80's.

Hey there! check out the intake manifold for leaks they tend to rot out or the O-ring falls apart (air leaks), carb is nice and clean. You can pour some gas into the spark plug hole, then turn it over, see if it fires up, check for spark as well, they are pretty simple (somewhat) go through the steps and you'll have it running reliable in no time! thanks for watching and best of luck!

@@kenneyl3oi889 Thats not so bad! 3 gears is all you really need, racks are almost always hurt and rusty, but doesn't take much to clean them up, and a starter, well they never seem to last long on ATV's, pull starting when you're not sure if the Carb works right, its a painful process! The starters are pretty simple internally as well, might be worth cracking it open to see if some cleaning, or brushes stuck etc. is your issue.
