Janice, if you are in zone 7 or above, then it should do okay. If you are in zone 6 or lower then you may need to protect the garlic/ground from freezing. You can plant the garlic and then mulch it heavy with straw, leaves or wood chips. Old chicken manure will be okay, just don't use too much because it is higher in nitrogen. Alice: Great question. Actually I do have raised beds and for some vegetables they are great. The only negative I have of them is that they dry out easy. The ones that are not very high are better as far as staying moist. One great advantage of raised beds it that it is easy to improve the soil by adding compost and other soil building materials. Hello Tai and welcome to my videos. Zone 8, yes, you are already having warm weather. How big is the raised bed you are asking about? And what kind of vegetables are you planning to grow? That's funny lag. Were I live the ground freezes 3-4 feet deep. Real cold winters water lines buried 6 feet deep have frozen solid. I grow a variety that has been great producer down to -60f. Northern premium white it is called. Heavy layer of mulch and wait for 4 feet of snow. Snow insulates the ground, so deep snow is helpful. Great videos subscribed after one.

Thanks in advance!
@OldAlabamaGardener6 жыл бұрын
Hello Ivy and welcome to my videos. Rust, as you may already know, is caused by humid conditions. To stop the spread to other plants, you can cut the infected leaves off (do not compost infected leaves) and probably the garlic will still form a head. Rust does not cause the garlic to be unfit for eating. The rust is a fungus and could be controlled by applying a fungicide. I don't know of any organic fungicides for this. Thanks for watching my videos. OAG
