10yrs later and this video, not only is it a nice demonstration of the K5LA but is still hilarious 😆

Thanks for the comment! I can't believe it's been over 10 years since I shot this video (my cousin, actually...I was driving). I'm getting ready to install a Canadian tuned K5HLA on the rig soon. Time to do another run by!

Imagine the same but, in England when locomotive engineers hardly ever blow the horn. Plus electric train approach even at high speed very quietly.
@friendlyfire26155 жыл бұрын
Less scary since you wouldnt worry as much about death, high speed trains will kill you quickly, freight trains run way slower and will dog into you slowly, causing more pain.

If you wanna hear a K5LA on a train, I would recommend Amtrak (passenger service throughout most of the country) and CSX (a Class 1 railroad east of the Mississippi River), since they have a lot of K5LA's. (Beware, CSX's K5LA's are VERY loud.)

I've always wondered about this particular horn. It's nearly identical to a standard K5LAR24, but there's something different about it. Amtrak frequently uses these on their Empire Service trains, and I've heard it on a few CSX GP40s and 38s. There's gotta be some special name for it or something!

Do certain engine classes have the same kind of horn, or are they spread around?
@oldanur12 жыл бұрын
The lines ARE 1/2". Anyone serious in the hobby knows that is what you use. The feeds to the valves are 3/4". If I ever think of it and get a chance, I'll put some closeup pictures on my flickr site and put a link here. BTW I've taken the Prime off for now and mounted an RS-5T in its place. Haven't done a road run yet, but stay tuned...
