Been fascinated with martial arts my whole life (I'm 57). First thing I read was an FBI hand to hand combat manual at age 7 to stop my brother from picking on me. Since then I consumed every book and magazine I could get my hands on. It's SO great that now theres the internet and I can see actual footage of the arts that back then could only read about and look at pictures . 2 of those arts were Muay Boran and Krabi Krabong .

Its sick how today Muay thai still 90% looks like Muay thai from 1963. Literally has been the king of striking. Meanwhile other arts now all look more like Muay thai than their traditional forms in old footage 🤣

That's because Muay Boran was already a practical martial art to begin with. Muay Thai is similar, as they just adapted Muay Boran techniques to sport and changed a few things to make it safer. Muay Thai is one of the most practical striking martial arts out there today.

I'm trying to schedule a Fight Mma against untrained fighters in the US right now, and there are rules obviously that limit a portion of the amazing techniques shown on this channel. If the footage is worth seeing, I'll send it to you. If anyone asks me anything, I send them your way. You've helped me tremendously with your references and consice deconstruction. This happened because Muay Boran shifted towards prizefighting, and the old knowledge got misused, used differently, or lost. From a cross-study of HEMA manuscripts and Muay Boran, I can say that Muay Korat has many techniques for warfare, but mainly in the 21 Mae Mai Boran (Ancient Fundamental Techniques) which are not featured in this documentary.

@@GaawutProductions Yeah, maybe 3 treasure step is more from a Muay Chaiya point of view, it is how my school translates it and also has it´s meaning for each treasure etc. I am not Thai and can only speak and read some and even Thai people will not understand many of the Traditional names due to the poetry used so it is always hard to do this translations. I have an old Korat Text and so far 2 Thai persons deemed impossible to translate as it is written in a very old and poetic way. Yin Dee Ru jak kap khun ( ยินดีที่ได้รู้จัก)

I heard that he practices like that. So as not to blink when your opponent throws a punch. It is a practice so that boxers are not afraid of the opponent's punches and turn away or close their eyes. That is why some boxers can easily dodge punches.
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 7 ай бұрын
Yes, but in reality it has little effect, because the reflex of closing the eyes is a response to a stimulus (the strike), so it has to be trained precisely with that stimulus.

What happened to muay boran clinch work and sweeps and takedowns, it's like the proper teachings and dangerous teachings disappeared because muay thai moderned it so it can be less more dangerous.
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 2 жыл бұрын
What happened is exactly what you said, but they forbade too many throws which could have stayed, like judo-like throws, which are not dangerous. Also, most masters train Muay Boran like it is Muay Thai, so they don't train enough the throws and sweeps which are illegal in Muay Thai.

Hey does muay boran have double leg takedown?
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it has both single and double legs takedowns. One of the 21 Mae Mai Boran (Ancient Fundamental Techniques) of Muay Korat, the style shown in the video, is a double-leg takedown. They are rarely seen because most Muay Boran schools don't spar correctly, they spar like they are practicing Muay Thai and do not use the full wrestling repertoire of Muay Boran. I've discussed this mistake in my video "Muay Boran Mistake 4".

Idk why but I have a feeling masters made none practical moves meant for entertainment and shows, then in the future when muay boran was kinda fading away it got brought back and then new muay boran masters started teaching the none practical moves thinking it was apart of muay boran combat, is my theory right?
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 2 жыл бұрын
Well, Muay Korat has always been very active in fights, and wearing gloves in Korat was mandatory from 1950, and not from 1928 like in the more central regions. In the repertoire of Muay Korat there are no climbing techniques or impractical things, and neither in the most ancient Muay Boran manuscript ever found, which illustrates military techniques. As Kru Lek from Muay Chaiya said, climbing techniques most probably come from the Natasin dance and were used for exhibitions. Other techniques might have been altered over the years due to incorrect training methods (time-freeze and more). I don't know if your theory is true but definitely plausible.
