This is the oldest known Scandinavian song. It's lyrics and melody were found at the end of the Codex Runicus, a law book written entirely in runes. The Latin alphabet was introduced around 1100, and any song to make it into such an important book was presumably in oral tradition before it was written down. So, pretty likely to originate in the Viking period.
There are just two lines, written in the old Danish language. There are lots of lovely versions in modern Danish with added lyrics and new melodies written to make it a full song, but I wanted to stick to just this original bit.
I use the translation by Dr Jackson Crawford, "I dreamed a dream last night,of silk and fair furs".
I recommend his video for more details:

Im thinking of getting one, any suggestions? I might start with a 7 wire or maybe a 16 wire I dont know yet. And which style should I get?

I'm sure any type would be interesting to learn - it depends what your main interest is. My interest is early medieval music, so all the archaeological finds from then are 6-7 strings. I don't know about 16 ones I'm afraid!

no, this was not viking music. being a viking was a profession. scandinavian people weren’t vikings, but vikings were usually scandinavian people

She didn't say that it is Viking music. She said it probably originated from the Viking period. I understand what you mean and I'm also bored when people use the word Viking without knowing what it exactly means. But dark bardess just talked about the "Viking period". Greetings.
