This was one of the most exciting times in gaming!. I still remember being an ecstatic little kid getting all hyped up like crazy for the N64. Thankfully, it didn't disappoint.

i miss those days of the pre internet era, where tv shows and magazines were all the hype you could get. I remember the official Nintendo magazine getting a n64 shipped overnight from Tokyo and then doing a massive next issue feature which just blew our minds at the time. even 20 years later SM64 is still IMO the most influential game of all time.

@@Oldgamingfart What is crazy is how on release day I was able to wake up 2 hours before release take a shower, eat breakfast then head to Target to be the 2nd person in line for the N64. Compare that to the PS5 fiasco!

"Cheeky left ones cheeky right ones and damn right saucy underneath ones!" When I was a kid I recorded this feature from Gamesmaster on VHS, and then I watched it over and over again until the "Ultra" 64 got released. Thanks for the upload - this brings back happy memories.

It's crazy that Goldeneye started out as an on-rail arcade style shooter, I've been reading some Nintendo Power mags and Goldeneye wasn't even that hyped.

I remember renting Goldeneye when it very first came out just because we rented a game ever Friday, and it was brand new, not really knowing a whole lot about it, but I don't remember going into the rental with a ton of hype other than we had seen the movie. And then played the first few levels and was amazed. My Dad and I drove around a few different towns before we found one copy at a Kmart and I guarded the shelf while my Dad tracked down an employee to buy it. And then once we had it, I remember it very quickly got recognized as one of the greatest games ever. But I seem to have the same memory of the prerelease, that there wasn't necessarily a ton of talk about the game

I think they meant levels like mission's, which would explain why the expected count is similar to the actual number of stars in the game. It's not like the final SM64 is simple or small in any way.

When was the first time that Nintendo used the name "Nintendo 64"? Japanese Wikipedia says august 10th 1995 (!), but with no source. But there was material before Shoshinkai 1995 (November 22 - 24) that used the Nintendo 64 logo instead of Ultra 64...
