I just used some of this stuff today, also on a black Suburban, after a windshield replacement where they left a big gap on the top edge. Good to know it works for you

---- < What about if the weather stripping problem is between the weather strip and the glass. Will the permatex make a seal between the glass of the front windshield and the rubber or vinyl strip across the top of the window?
@OldGuyDIY24 күн бұрын
Based on my experience, yes.

My sealant shrank due to age and the corner is peeling off will this work? And is it easy to clean off if I have to change the windshield
@OldGuyDIYАй бұрын
I believe this will work to repair the shrinkage. It is not easy to clean off. Once it is there, it wants to stay there.

Can the seal be replaced or would the whole windshield need to come out?
@OldGuyDIY Жыл бұрын
The windshield needs to be removed to properly replace the seal.
@gerardotorres790411 ай бұрын
How much that would cost aprox?
@DiegoRL1710 ай бұрын
@@gerardotorres7904it's basically going to cost the same as replacing it. I have that issue where i got a new windshield installed poorly and now reaping the consequences. Luckily it doesn't rain often in California.

So I have a 07 Cadillac DTS and when I wash the car water gets in somewhere and where I open the sunroof that where the water starts coming out from those buttons and lights could it be the sunroof that needs sealant around the sunroof
@OldGuyDIY8 ай бұрын
Yes, I believe so. It could be that the seal around the sunroof needs to be replaced or the drain hole or holes are plugged. With the sunroof open, stick your head through the sunroof hole and you will see a track running around the outside edge of the sunroof. The track should have a drain hole or two to allow water to escape to the ground. If the drain hole is blocked by dirt, leaves, etc, the water cannot escape as it should. I suggest pouring a small amount of water into the sunroof track and watching where it runs to. That will help you identify the drain location and determine whether or not the drain is plugged. Some years ago a friend had an issue with a leaking sunroof and we found the issue I just described. Good luck.

A good test to start the process is to apply duct tape to the seam where the sunroof and roof meet and then pour water on the roof. Wipe the roof off, remove the tape and see if there is any water near the buttons, where it had been leaking before. If there is no water, at least you know for sure that the sunroof to roof interface is the problem. The duct tape will only have been on there for 5 - 10 minutes so you shouldn't have to worry about the tape leaving residue when you remove it.

@@OldGuyDIY basically around the whole sunroof where it opens and where the seal is right ??

Yes, that's what I would do.

Do u know how long it lasts?
@OldGuyDIY Жыл бұрын
I think it will last forever. I was unable to remove the permatex when I had a new windshield replaced so I left it there even when it was no longer needed.

Basically u needed to remove and refit screen . Fit new trim

No, when I had the windshield replaced, we found a section about 2" long that did not have any adhesive at the top of the windshield. Whoever replaced the windshield last apparently did a poor job.

That piece of rubber molding is not for sealing the windshield to the car. It just reduces wind noise and covers the channel that rain water runs in along the top of the windshield while making its way to the side channels and then the ground. I was just trying to keep rain water from getting between the top of the truck and the rubber trim piece since I knew there was a void in the adhesive around the windshield. When I had the windshield replaced a few months later, we found a 6 inch section at the top of the windshield where there was no adhesive caulk. The solution shown in this video kept water out of the truck until the windshield was replaced.
