Yungblud reaction to the song God save me, but don't drown me out was a very interesting song. I love how YungBlud has a mission to address the issues of this generation. We have all gone through these exact issues in our lifetimes, but I feel that in the present day it is compounded 100 times more than what we went through 40 years ago. The reason is technology and communication. You get a break when communication and technology are not involved in your life. Today it is impossible to get a break. It feeds addiction and causes depression. That.....my friends.....is very hard to escape. God help us all!

Excellent discussion topic. We actually need sad songs in our lives that we can relate to. I once saw a movie where there was a relationship break up and the guy was so sad driving down the road. He turned on the radio and there was a sad love song on the radio. He was crying listening to it. He decided to change the station only to hear another sad break up song. He did this 2 or 3 more times only to find another sad song. So he finally ripped his radio out of the dashboard and threw it out the window. Those sad songs fed his depression. We use music in sports to get pumped....because music drives our emotions. Sad songs CAN feed depression. I do think it depends on the person and their personality though. This is a great topic of discussion. However, we do need sad songs and happy songs. My opinion is that sad songs at some point get put on the shelf when they don't relate to us anymore.

@@oldguyreactions that’s not depression. That’s that dude sad over a break up. And it’s also a movie. Sad songs don’t feed depression at all. Yes they get put on the shelf as nostalgic classics eventually but they definitely don’t feed depression. I’ve been around enough depressed people to know lol. Those songs reminded him of what he lost. Yungblud and tøp remind you you’re not alone. And it’s ok to feel the way you do. Breakups are not anywhere close to depression. He may have been depressed but I don’t think movie dude had depression

You make a lot of good points here, and I appreciate you trying to understand our generation when a lot of people don't try to. However, I disagree about this song feeding into depression. For those of us with mental illness, it makes us feel understood and not so alone, that we can fight our demons and it's okay not to be okay. He has ADHD, depression, and anxiety. He wanted to show how anxiety and depression felt and how he and his fans were treated. Of course, environment and everything you mentioned can cause that, but for a lot of us, it's purely a disruption in our brain chemistry. Mental illness is a tricky thing to understand if you don't have an illness yourself. But I greatly appreciate you for stepping up and be willing to understand, when a lot of people just brush it off, like we’re going through a phase or something.

I love this comment....thank you for taking the time to share this. I agree that his message helps people and that the relatableness factor is powerful. I guess what I was trying to say is that it will be interesting to watch yungblud as he grows older to see how his music will change. I cannot wait to hear more. I actually love his youth messaging which I think I called it "his mission". I just anticipate that it may change from this type of messaging as he gets older. I like yungblud.

@@oldguyreactions You should react to his new Weird! album. It hit #1 in the UK and it's all stories about his fans (and himself obviously). The first track blew me away, and it just kept getting better. I haven't felt that way about a record since The Black Parade by MCR. The title definitely fits, because every song is vastly different from the others, but it somehow fits. Soo maybe an album react? 🤞🏼 Here’s the first track. Not all of them have videos, but they do have an audio visualizer for the rest. Even if you can't do a react ‘cause it’s blocked or something, I think you should listen to it. It's other-worldly and his vocals are insane. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWbQq2ygaKeaadE

completely agree. a lot of people have a problem with yungblud and just don’t like him overall, saying how he lied about his money growing up and other pointless things tbh, but anyways, i think a lot of people don’t like his songs bc they don’t get them. for people with mental health issues or any diagnosis’s similar, it’s incredibly relatable :)

I love Yungblud. He seems like such a genuinely nice person. I don't think sad songs feed depression, but more importantly, this song carries hope with it. It lets you know there's a way out of the darkness. The video gets me teary-eyed and laughing all at the same time with the bear's antics. I love it.

As a 22 boy, i feel so good with this "sad songs" because yungblud knows and express how we feel. And people of your generation can understand us a little more. I've read about parents listen his songs and literally say "I'm sorry" to his own sons. I recommend you "Mars" and "Parents". Another examples what I am talking about. Hugs from Mexico 💚

omg i totally agree with this 7:08 our generation is odd and different because we have technology, and we see the stuff our parents/elders/countries are going through. It sucks, but we have to talk about politics at our age because we have the tech to understand and its our future. So most of us are so broken. Thank you for that speech, it meant a lot to know a older guy understands. Thank you.

11:55 "It feeds the depression". I totally disagree with you. I've heard you say it before (Hope For The Underrated Youth). But it lifts people up who are listening. It gives them hope and a feeling of being understood. It brings perspective if an artist can sing about something so true to your own life, that you're not the only one struggling. Listening to songs like this is relieving in any form, from listening alone in bed, dancing with your friends or screaming your longs out at the concerts... Music is all about human connection, it always has been. Happy or sad.

I don't feel like it feeds my depression, it actually makes me feel better. Every time I'm feeling lost with my emotions I listen to YUNGBLUD (and other artist that sing about this kind of topics) cause it helps me feel understood and contained. So I can identify what is hurting me inside and externalize it, either in tears, screams or singing with him. Sad songs are necessary but I understand if some people needs to listen cheer up music. I LOVE YOUT REACTIONS THO I always watch them from Argenitna :)

I actually enjoy listening to depressing music when I feel depressed. But to me this song is actually hopeful, it mentions that he is coming from a position where he KNOWS that things have been fucked up, but he is taking control of them. In that way I see the song as uplifting in comparison to other songs, especially with how the song ends. The video even does that, with how it shows that the bear was never there in the first place, and he accomplished all of that himself. In those ways, I feel it is hopeful.

Like your passion. And very true. It sucks for this generation, and the dad thing is, it's only going to get worse. My kids are 20,18 and 9 and my 9yr old is under pressure at school already, it's ridiculous what they expect from them, and hardly surprising kids have so much depression and advert. luckily mine hasn't been too bad. Love yungblud to.

Great reaction, btw he is super diverse, not everything he does is depressing! I would recommend Charity or Patience. Sad songs are comforting because it tells you that other people feel the same. Singing along can be very cathartic for people. I love this song, and his message is that we will be fine no matter what. Have you ever heard of the Black Parade...? 😂

I think one thing that you really need to know to understand both the song & the singer is that he has ADHD & it caused all sorts of problems when he was younger, such as being expelled from school. He was put on Ritalin & it zombified him. His mum was worried that his behaviour was being changed & he wasn't acting normal, so she took him off it & basically told him to embrace who he was. His ADHD will never go away but he's learned how to live with it & use it as a tool to have a, hopefully stellar, career. For some people it might be ADHD, for others autism, or depression, or physical health concerns, or homosexuality, or transsexuality. Most people have something that the wider public looks down on, but you can overcome their negative opinion by being authentic. Saying hang in there, it will be better is a song that will never lose its public appeal. Additionally I respectfully disagree with what you have said about sad songs. When bad things have happened in my life, I've turned to music to help me. I've survived several traumas that way, but still listen to the songs that helped me. They have become personal favourites, because they have a special message, showing me I didn't only survive but thrived. I personally feel that Yungblud has a vital message to the entire world, that we need to be true to ourselves, & to be kind to others & to ourselves. We need to understand that we're all the same underneath & differences are only superficial. I'm in my early 50s, but this singer has fired me up like no other band has for about 20 years. The last time music made me feel this alive was 90s metal &, before then, first generation British punk. Yungblud is the hero I didn't know I needed.

I agree, some sad songs do but I was in a severe depression and listening to Yugbluds music has given me hope and has helped me look at the bigger picture instead of stewing in my feelings at home everyday. Yes it is a sad song but it is also an inspiring song. I used to sit on my couch everyday and binge watch KZbin and sleep until 5 or 6 in the evening. Now I don't turn on my tv until 5 or 6 in the evening and have applied for college this fall and go to sleep around 9 or 10 pm like I should and not 5 or 6 in the morning. Dom's music has helped me heal in a way the therapist cannot. Where they have failed he succeeded through music. Dom is amazing and has a heart of gold!!!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 love you Dom!!!!
