Olds 403 pilot bearing discussion and engine installation

I dropped a 403 into a 77 Impala to replace the 305 camshaft eater. Made it a nice sleeper.

Thanks for watching! I’m not sure if you have me confused with someone else since my name is Tony, not Joe. I recognize your name from Oldsmobile forums (Oldspower maybe?). I don’t recall selling any seats to anyone in Canada but it’s possible I did and forgot it! At any rate I’m glad to have you here!

403 engines have been around since 1977. I highly doubt in the last 47 years you are the first one to have the AH HA moment to think it's possible and got shut down for reasons we don't know. I'm still in the can't do it without matching the crank or bearing or using the cheater bearing camp. (Until proven otherwise of course). ;-). I WANT it to work, just doubt it.

I highly doubt I'm try the first one to try it too John and I'd never be so egotistical as to think that. I was just trying to prove if it would work or not since whenever I'd ask the question the answer was usually "Gee, I don't know. It looks like it so maybe". So it's about time someone took some measurements wouldn't you agree? The measurements appear to show it will work. Unfortunately, I couldn't lay my hands on a stock Olds pilot bearing while I was measuring that (of course I found it after the engine was in the car). At least I proved the input shaft should fit fine you'll just have to come up with a pilot bearing that fits in without too much trouble.
