Definitely learned something on this video. You just answered the question to why my brand new stainless steel bolt seized on one of my engine brackets. Duh... no anti-seize! Thanks Hutch!

The best lessons are learned the hard way (I should know). And watch yourself with that anti-seize! You open it up and it's on your neighbors shoes 🙂

Nice video! Helpful too because I'm in the process of putting my '65 425 back together after a cam and heads swap. I absolutely cracked up when you talked about how anti seize gets everywhere! I also have the same problem with RTV, no matter how little I use, it gets on my gloves, then I touch something, then I grab the roll of towels and the ratchet... 😄

Thank you. I agree on the RTV too. If you get some under a fingernail and it sets, it's murder getting it out.

they sell it in a tube like cheese wiz the only bad thing is it cost 35 dollars but it doesn't get everywhere and you can turn a valve to turn it off o the whole thing doesn't harden up

I have a 88 with the roller lifters. I forgot to replace my cam spring and didn’t realize how hard it was to get into the timing cover with the motor in the car. I’m really considering just leaving it alone.

I'm glad I'm not the only ocd 🍆 head out there, lol. I saw your response to the comment about the pink gasket and instantly wondered if I finally found my long-lost father 😂😂. First video for me. I'm building 2 455s for my 69 Cutlass because I'm running hard down here in Florida and must have a backup. I can tell already I'm going to learn a few things from you. is the timing mark at 12 on both or 12 and 6?
@hutchhiperf3 ай бұрын
For the Double Roller I used, the Cam sprocket dot is at 6 o'clock and the Crank sprocket is at 12 o'clock. You line the two dots up. I installed the timing chain here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2ebhpisbKesack It's at the 14 minute mark.

@@hutchhiperf i seen the video thanks but i put mine together last night my chilton book tells you to do it your way on the 350 motor but on the 400 it tells you 12 and 12. i set my 425 at 12 on crank and 12 on cam but both valves are closed. if i rotate the engine a full rotation then mine would be like yours but my valves would be open my question is are your valves in the open position on number one would i need to pull the cover to correct mine?
@hutchhiperf3 ай бұрын
@@bobdimartino6738 Think of it this way. 1 full rotation of the crank takes the #1 piston from TDC to TDC. One is compression and one is exhaust (based off the cam). The cam is doing the same in it's 1 rotation. 1 valve open, both valves closed, the other valve open. The crank and cam work together but have different jobs. On one rotation, #1 is at TDC and the cam says "both valves closed", on the next TDC, "exhaust valve open". If you put the cam and crank gear marks both at 12 o'clock, then one rotation of the crank will have them at 6 and 12 (the crank turns twice for every one turn of the cam). It only matters when the Distributor goes in. If you just go by the balancer mark and not check that it's on the compression stroke at TDC then you can be 180 off. The practice of putting the chain on "dot to dot" is just to be more accurate because they're so close together. It's less possible to be one tooth off than at 12 to 12. You're fine

Hey Hutch, is the front cover seal part of a whole rebuild gasket kit or is it a ford 460 seal? or are they the same? I've seen on the CO forum reference to the ford 460 seal.....
@hutchhiperf2 жыл бұрын
The 460 seal is for the rear main seal, replacing the antiquated rope seal. The front cover seal and rear pan seal are from the usual 455 gasket kit. I talk about the 460 seal at minute 24:49 here kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYPdmnR4bL6Hn5Y
