You know in 2k22 when you can press LT while on the defender was on your hip?and your player would move them lol. They should bring that back. Lower the effectiveness of the move by having to be the on ball defender. So theres some gameplay balance. Cpu defense is definitely smarter than previous years. Also better animations.

They need to nerf the CPU defense and buff the user defense. There’s no point in playing on-ball if the AI does a better job. I prefer on-ball because it’s boring to just camp in the paint all game but you can’t be mad at someone for off-balling when the game gives absolutely no incentive to actively play D

It’s so ignorant the way off-ballers can manually play only 50% of the game (offense) and the other (defense) is just not interesting for them at all. And there still no advantage off that laziness, basically they have advantage of it(excessive paint defense, passing lanes interceptions). 2k at least needs to bring back 2k23snatch back which gave you OPEN contest on CPU, instead of carrying about people that waste everyone fun/time while being AFK.

I just picked 2K up about a week ago and after my first single player game, I knew people were going to be playing off ball. Cheesy m'fers.....If there is a way to cheese, people will use it in any game. Those that do are not even sweats, they just suck and look for shortcuts to win. Beyond annoying. If I had to play like that, I wouldn't even play online, like you said. I remember when I first started playing online back in 2007. I was big into NCAA Football and that was the first game I played. Everyone used a running quarterback. Usually Oregon, or West Virginia. And that's all they done. Same couple of plays over and over. Took me a day or 2, but I figured out the exact plays in needed to run on defense to stop those few plays and I was unbeatable when playing these bums. Cheese balls are nothing new to gaming, especially sports gaming.

I totally agree with you about the off ball defense and how annoying it is to play against but I don't understand why everyone feels the same way about backdoor cuts. In my opinion backdoor cuts are a good counter to the off ball defense not to mention that it's a strategy in real life basketball

Backdoor cuts are great counter (i highlighted it in the video!), but the Triangle cuts were broken, and honestly the send cut mechanic needs tweaks for 25, as the cutter can break out of any defensive animation when led to the basket. But I agree, backdoors are essential, currently they need work. But nerfing the triangle cut is the best medium for now!

This is the only reason I prefer mypark and always have. I dont think play now/myteam players are more skilled or less skilled than any park/ stage players but offballing is me actually playing a computer and it’s not fun or social.

I totally agree and hear what you’re saying but some of these clips justify off ball defense. When I play online, players spam pick and roll. I’m a former collegiate basketball player. 2k’s AI defending ball screens is Atrocious. Hedges don’t exist and the cpu trails the ball handler on the “switch everything” settiing, even you you get a solid help sequence (animation) you now have a guard on a big. In real life defenders recognize the mismatch and dig to help. 2k doesnt have that logic. So you almost have to play off ball against pick and roll spammers focusing on being a help defender when you inevitably get a drive to the rim. I’m horrible at 2k, probably because I try to play simulation style and I’ll take the blame for that. But I don’t think off ball defense is a community issue. It’s a gameplay issue

Internet connection is an issue for some. Not everyone has the best connection or live in a city with multiple options of isp. If you’re lagging, then playing on ball defense is a no no. Even the servers lag at times. As in stop the games for 5 seconds, then fast forward everything.

This is the state of 2k now, and from the developers pov its almost like they are encouraging it.. one of the very few ways to stop this was to send backdoor cuts or send players on cuts with the Y or triangle button.. now that those have been nerfed its pretty much this none stop and pick and roll offense

Yeah I get that cuts could be and were abused but the fact the 'solution' was "let's just remove it" instead of "let's code it properly" ... It's so frustrating. I've seen defenders block the cuts and flip their head to steal the pass. The correct animations were already in the game. But instead they remove a perfectly good and necessary tactic because they can't be bothered to code the game properly so that said tactic wasn't OP

It’s just not fun to play with this current gameplay and the shot speeds that allow people to rely on the AI defense. If the ball wouldn’t phase through you while playing on-ball defense I wouldn’t mind it as much but you’re far less rewarded for playing straight up.

2K needs to lower the off ball defense. You should be able to beat cpu D better if they don’t play. Same way on offense if you turn off the shooting meter you get a better shot percentage, why not the same on defense?

Double teams are the only way man, force that pass out of help and be ready to rotate. You can stay as in position as possible but if they got badges like drop stepper, masher, fast twitch, and rise up its a wrap

Off ball defense this year is the worst. It’s definitely more popular compared to previous years. It seems as if the CPU is awarded “cheesy” plays. I’d like to see the developers reward the offense a little more whenever a user is playing off ball too much. I promise all I need is 1.5 seconds to cook you when on ball… or affect the off ball users offense in a negative fashion like illegal screens or cheesy turnovers. I may just step away from MyTEAM and do online quick play

Just beat someone like this in salary cap. Was down like 12 and the guy pause cheesed, got on the mic screaming I was p2w (because I had Hakeem ig?) while he spammed the same p&r with curry. He's winning 22-10 2nd period comes, I bring my bench in, (Jalen green and sengun duo is clutch, they went off) and begin hard on balling, A/X switching every pick he set, and he's absolutely clamped. Getting cooked is how I get better. If you don't want to play the game, just turn off the game. This is not about people who don't switch because it would ruin the play happening (e.g.: center is picking up a cut you got beat out on), it's about folks who just wanna sit back and not play D at all.

Off ball is the best way to defend against individuals who manipulate spacing with motion sets. People who like to hunt 3s behind pick and roll 5-Out Spacing without any post play is in my opinion, involves the very same psychological playstyle as individuals who offball 90 percent of the time

Nothing wrong with playing off ball defense to help or use a center to guard the paint sometimes. Because the reason why a lot of 2k players complain about people not playing on ball defense is because they don’t know how to blow by defenders and they want a human to just guard them so they can just play iso ball 🏀 and run around in circles to get a shot off or play high pick n roll all game. That’s why u need to play off ball at times especially against those Steph curry high pick cheesers. Run some plays and stop complaining.
