I enjoy listening and re-listening to this episode. I like Dame May Whitty's voice and she did well in this role.

It would be very helpful and much appreciated if a brief synopsis was included with all the episodes. I’m certain this little favor would increase your subscription.

Air Date:01.24.1946 ( January 24, 1946) Plot:+ KQW, San Jose aircheck. "My Dear Niece". Sponsored by: Roma Wines. A good story with a surprise ending about the proverbial little old lady being held hostage by a murderer. The story was subsequently produced on "Suspense" on November 16, 1958. + Emily Rogers was a widow woman and wrote to her dear niece explaining how she had taken her advise in finding some sort of position to occupy her. She put an ad in the paper “genteel from secretarial experience drives own car desires position of interest with reliable business house” and the very next day she received a reply from a Mr Bruce from a small publishing company in Los Angeles. He wanted her to be available to establish contacts in her area and offered her payment of $50 a week. Although the check arrived each week she was not given any work until the 4th week… www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/thriller/suspense/my-dear-niece-1946-01-24

Why did she not recognize "Paul's" voice?

This was great, but I don't understand how she communicated her distress to the auto mechanic.

I think it worked like this: She just kept repeating Stevens's name to make sure the mechanic would remember it. It's a small town where everyone knows what's going on (I'm from a small rural community and trust me, it really is a thing in such places). The word was already out that Stevens was the murdered man's name, so the mechanic called the police.

Interesting that the mechanic's name was "Mr. Mahers". The killer was played by Wally Maher. I wondered why Emily would accept the terms that she couldn't tell anyone. Should have been a red flag 😮
