My dad was born in 1911 in the Village of Eglinton. We still have his birth certificate with the Village of Eglinton on it. The Village of Elginton became a part of the Town of North Toronto the following year. Dad was born on Erskine Ave. The family eventually moved around the corner to Redpath Ave. Grandpa owned a pharmacy on Yonge at Erskine.

That post office (sadly only a facade now) was also unique as one of only three public buildings in the Commonwealth with Edward VIII's Cypher on it.

I’d love to see a video on the history of Deer Park (Yonge and St Clair area)!!

My grandmother and Aunt lived for years on Mallory Gardens and then my aunt eventually moved to Delisle. I love the Deer Park neighbourhood. So many memories.

they just mashed up the first 'strip mall' (1952) at eglinton and bayview, ie 'Sunnybrook Plaza' 660 Eglinton Ave E...in 1972 to make way for 2 highrises... i was 12 years old and took the eglinton bus from Mason Road, westbound to this plaza; my grandfather (Millwood Ave) picked me up to drop me at my great uncle's house on Silverwood Ave; it was an annual golf trip my great uncle took each summer, and all his grandnephews took turns caddying for him for 3 weeks in Huntsville..each time i passed the mall i remember that bus trip like it was yesterday...

That strip mall played a large role in my youth, First time I ever took a girl to a restaurant was in the early 1970's and it was to the Sunnybrook restaurant in that mall. Later , our first shopping trip as a young coup[le was to the Consumer's Distributing outlet there. We bought an alarm clock and an ironing board. :-)

How can you make a video on the history of Yonge and Eg and not even mention Montgomery's Tavern and the post office that replaced it?!?
@adriangeorge35464 жыл бұрын
I totally agree , Montgomery’s tavern is such a big part of Toronto and Canadian history, missing the most significant and historical part of the yonge and eg story , they should do an episode solely on the story of Montgomery tavern .

You know that discoloured slab of concrete outside the Eaton Centre at Yonge and Dundas - the one that used to claim that Yonge was the longest street in the world? We should work together on that video - and why, despite Guinness' claim - it is no longer the case. I think it could be fun!
@intercommerce3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not the longest street in the world, if you look at the concession lines Yonge Street originally and still ends in a swamp south of Cook's Bay, Lake Simcoe... ended
