Usyk as a natural cruiserweight, has single handedly destroyed British heavyweight boxing in the course of a few years. Beat Fury twice. AJ twice. Dubois once. Usyk landed more clean, effective punches whilst being the aggressor and ring general throughout most of the contest. The official punch stats have Usyk outlanding Fury in every round except for the 1st and the 4th, and the 1st was even. In the 2nd half of the fight, the margin became wider. Fury started to gas out, and his premeditated strategy was clearly holding and hitting in order to slow down the pace, because clearly he wasn't prepared for Usyk's pace at 281 lbs. A lot of sloppy punches, a lazy jab, slaps, a lot hitting gloves. Resorting to dirty tactics, rabbit punching, grabbing and leaning on Usyk to sap his energy. Still, Usyk kept landing cleanly, consistently. You could argue about 2 or 3 rounds and have it closer. But there is no possible argument to declare Fury the winner here.

The rounds were close but the fight was not. 116-112 is the best Fury possibly did. Thats if you give him round 1, where not much happened, but usually that should go to the champion. I’d be okay scoring that even. After that Fury won the fifth round. And only one other that seemed clear around 8 or 9. Usyk won all the championship rounds anything from 116-112 to 118-110 could be reasonable scores. In no universe did Fury win, for a draw you’d have to give Fury all the rounds he was competitive in, and 115-113 Usyk is even a significant stretch. 116-112 seems appropriate, and I don’t have any problem with the AI judges score of 10-2. Thats the reasonable range when scored round by round, despite a competitive “looking” fight. The overall competitive nature of many rounds deceptively made the fight feel closer to many, but it really wasn’t very close.
@tameimpala379 күн бұрын
Are people overreacting or do they just not understand how the scoring works. The official scores were 116-112 or 8 rounds to 4. Just one more round for Fury means the scores narrow to 115-113. Look, talent alone won't get you the belt. These guys were both incredibly gifted, trained hard, and honed their skills to a razor's edge. But when you get two animals like that in the ring, it's about who's the more ferocious predator. And Usyk, he was the hungrier lion both nights!

I'd love to see this type of analysis on tv again. Seriously love your HQ content. As a former ESB poster i've been watching you on and off from the start. A trusted voice in the sport for sure. Although, in fairness, an argument could be made the true Lineal title ended when Lennox Lewis retired while still the Lineal champion. If I'm not mistaken, The Ring magazine awarded the current Lineal title to Wladimir Klitschko around 2009 if I recall.

Great review. I really thought Fury did a good job of making this far more respectable than the first fight, which is weird considering the score cards made it seem less close. I was glad to see Fury actually attempt to use his size more aggressively, though Usyk did a good job of mitigating that. Really, I can't think of much more Fury could have done. 115-113 is an interesting call. Can't knock it, as there were plenty of close rounds. I would love to see Fury/AJ.

That's pretty much how I saw it, too... it was even for the first half of the fight, but Usyk did a bit more in the second half to take it... don't take anything away from either fighter... it was close, but Usyk's the man now

With his exceptional skills, Usyk solidifies his position among the top 10 P4P fighters of all time, making a compelling argument for a top 5 spot. He undoubtedly joins the ranks of iconic boxers Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, and Henry Armstrong.

Top 10? You are out of your mind. Fury having all advantages a boxer can have and lose 2x says everything about the state of the hw division If anything,Usyk exposed the hw division ending this trend of tall guys winning because of size alone wich I absolutely love bute not in a goat conversation by any means

pretty casual thing to say. the hard truth is AJ,Fury, Wilder weren't even better than the klitschko brothers. beating up a 40 year old vlad is not impressive. and we know the 2010s were the weakest era arguably

There is exist no doubts that Oleksandr Usyk is the best heavyweight world champion of this era. The only champ left of this HW era is Joseph Parker, now Interim WBO champion and mandatory who deserves a shot at the unified crown. Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr. are eliminated from the top, so with Tyson Fury twice defeated, Parker is only left. The only other thing left now is the epilogue between British rivalry; Fury vs. 2-time champion Anthony Joshua to claim the 2nd best spot of this era and proving who would win.
@sizzlechestmcmurphy43659 күн бұрын
The people screaming about the scoring discrepancy, the right fighter won. I thought the judges' scorecards were perfectly fine. Usyk is just WAY more skilled than Fury.
@LFM-ug2vr9 күн бұрын
I think 'WAY' more skilled is a disservice to both Fury AND Usyk. These two fights secured Usyk's legacy because he just beat a skilled, big heavyweight in Fury twice in very competitive fights
@Carlosonebillion9 күн бұрын
Fury's strategy and extra weight were mistakes born out of ego in my opinion. He refused to admit defeat from the first fight. Let's look at it instead from the perspective that he simply lost. What happened? He was using his size and reach to keep Usyk out in fight 1 for a few rounds, all of which were very dominant. Then Usyk got sharper and Fury started to slip, caught in the 9th. Specifically he was caught trying to throw a big shot at Usyk and overextending. If I'm Fury, and I view that as a legitimate LOSS, I would lose 10 pounds and try and outbox him on the outside in the rematch. Usyk is the superior boxer to be sure, but Fury is still excellent. Being a 8/10 boxer I think he can beat a 10/10 given his reach advantage. But Fury wouldn't admit he lost. So where does *that* leave him, strategically? "It's the judge's fault! Can't let it go to score cards, have to knock him out!" Sounds like Wilder 2: "A draw? Can't let it go to the judges again, gotta knock him out!" So despite Usyk and Wilder being NOTHING alike, Fury came to the Usyk rematch with a near identical gameplan to Wilder 2. The extra weight wore him out worse in the second half. I know some say Fury won round 12 but imo that's the only round after 6 I would dream of giving him, and I'd probably call it a draw personally. Where were those nasty uppercuts from fight 1? I know he threw some, but Fury was too busy tryna throw a 1 2 over the top over and over again like Usyk is Wilder. I do think it's an uphill battle for Fury to win on points against a guy like Usyk, but he never had as much success as he did in rounds 3-7 or whatever it was in fight 1. And in those rounds he was dancing, sticking and moving, much closer to my eye to Fury's performance in the first Wilder fight than the rematches.

Fury has been so dominant for years. Dude was a great champ and fought far closer than the judges scored it. It's now Usyks time until he is mentally done in which a new comer will topple him. People are far too quick to poo poo on Fury. Guy was the best of a generation.

Being an older fight fan it's hard to get enthusiastic about this era of boxing, though I think some of the lighter divisions are interesting. Glad I didn't buy this one.

Very good review of the fight Rummy. You DO know shit about boxing!!! Usyk is a great boxer, fighter and man. Fury let himself down pre-fight with his boorish behaviour and filthy language. I’m a Brit, however, I wanted the man from Ukraine to win and he did. As ever Tyson couldn’t accept the loss and Frank Warren let himself down again. Incidentally after the fight the presenter from TNT asked Usyk a question, queering the scorecards and if they were correct! How disrespectful. It was a cringeworthy moment and ridiculous unwarranted bias from the British broadcaster. Usyk won the fight without question.
