I listen to this everyday, religiously. I love Roman Kim's version as well, but Oleksii really did justice to this and brought out more emotion than one could possibly ask for. Truly a masterpiece! ❤️

Heifetz always commented his students playing too safe. The winner Bomsori is exactly playing too safe. What a pity to Oleksii is that there are slips in his last hair raising fingering octave.

Roman Kim's version is incredibly quick and precise, but Semenenko's version has both virtuosity and heart. It's not just showing off the latest effects, but rather it transforms into a serious piece.

Собственно говоря у Романа Кима цель была в демонстрации виртуозной техники, а в версии Алексея Семененко акцент делается на художественной составляющей.Что нисколько не умаляет любую из этих трактовок.

I don't think Kim's version was devoid of heart, despite some show offs. His technique is unmatched, I've never heard a violin sound like a flute like his does on some harmonics. Just like Paganini's notations on other works... "Imitando il flauto". Don't get me wrong, Semenenko is nothing other than great, but Kim showed he can be emotional and unbelievably impressive at the same time.

Oleksii is an exceptional violinist/musician. I greatly admire not only his skills but his tasteful artistry. And a special bravo tp the wonderful pianist who is so incredibly precise but also sensitive. She makes a beautiful sound and never plays too loud. Her voicing of the chords is impeccable.
