This is beautiful, and you are right, family is the most important. As a mathematics student I also feel motivated to keep researching thanks to my family, although they are not mathematicians, by just having them there helps me keep trying

"My family helps me remember that math is not the most important thing in life.... and I'd be fine even if I fail in all my research attempts." That probably is one of the most common and yet deepest things I've ever come across... for someone who's done none of what Svetlana Jitomirskaya has... I used to read & used to marvel at "deep" philosophical babbling of dead "great men" of the past. This woman truly is many orders of magnitude above those "deep" thinking dead men... from her discovery (in pure mathematics) of the boundary or phase transition between electron conductivity (in conducting materials) and electron inactivity (in insulation materials).... to her understanding that classical Mendelian genetics & subsequent emergence activities (of DNA permutation as a function of time, in a relatively stable ecosystem)... is what is important, in life, in the brief time each of us are allowed our 3B or so heart beats...
