I used to listen to Jocko a bit and I realized it’s unhealthy. Like all of the ”wellness” and “leadership” industry, it’s predicated on this sense that you’re already not enough. I know a few SEALs and while they are amazing human beings, they don’t call them knuckle draggers for nothing. Engineers, doctors, grocery store clerks, etc are all needed in society, too. Finally, my dad was a successful investment banker and he was pretty goofy (also had a ridiculous work ethic). I kept the goofiness and part of the work ethic. People like to trash my goofiness, maybe without realizing that it really has no bearing on how successful some one is. You don’t need to quit eating Doritos to be successful. However, I totally agree with your assessment that small changes will add up. I also don’t think you have to torture yourself and feel guilty you ate potato chips. That’s just crazy
@robertoj.95093 ай бұрын
@@stevebean1234 Well, this is probably me, but I tend not to take all their words literally. I'm not quitting Doritos. I will still eat Doritos. And that specific message, he made it quite clear that the Doritos were on his belly, and for me, again, maybe I overthink or downthink, whatever it is, but for me, that message was aimed for the typical fat person who's not happy with who he is... and not for me. Because the belly example just shows quite a bad habit. I mean, why would you allow yourself get that dirty to begin with? But from my point of view, you can't just be happy without eating a few bags of Doritos once a month, or once a week if you love them too much. Eating a bag of Doritos won't change your life or your body unless you're aiming for a competition and every small detail counts. But if you want to be healthy, you must stop bad habits. Doritos was just an example of how a person eats Doritos every day of the week, in which case, that's bad stuff. Now, about the leadership and stuff... Remember these guys are trying to be motivational, they want you to become the best you can achieve, and yes, "never is good enough". But this is a good thing if you don't downplay yourself. I'm a trader myself, I usually do well, but when I do bad, I do realize that I can always do better, that I can always improve, that never is enough experience and practice. And is not that "I'm not enough", it's just that there's always room for improvement. Some of them are quite fanatical, and they want to portray this macho image that shows quite a few insecurities about themselves... But the message is still valid if you don't take it as an attack, but more like a recommendation of how you could improve in the things you want to improve. I mean, if you're happy with your belly, your bear body instead of a beach body, why the hell would you even care to go to gym? I know for a fact that females don't care much about it, so, why would you? And even if they did... Why would you care about what they think? You should be working in yourself, FOR YOU, not for others. Your dad was a goofy fellow with a goofy work ethic because he was happy with it. If people criticize it, or mocked him, or hated him, I'm pretty sure he didn't freaking care. He enjoyed his time, his life, himself. Why? Because he just worked for the two things he cared the most: His family and himself. And that's the message you should grab overall. Work on you, because you deserve it to feel better.
