Brilliant and heartwarming ~ too rare a combo. This goodness radiates still on our hurting planet. May extra angels find all who see this... from the heart. ❤🐾🐾

❤ Competitors, best friends, play mates, philanthropists, partners in mischief, entertainers, expert hikers… what can’t these two lovely Labradors do? They found the best person to live with, too. We can tell how much they’re loved.

I'm a bit autistic and I've always loved dogs. My parents kept dogs, even before I was born. I grew up with them and have always felt more calm and relaxed and at ease around them. My current dog, Tigger, is very theraputic because she's so calm most of the time. She's also very protective of me. I love your videos. They always make me chuckle.

I’ve just had the weirdest experience. I heard Andrew cotters voice, looked for Olive and Mabel, but there were a great crowd of Welsh and Scottish men running after a ball! Do Olive and Mabel know about this, is it their ball?
@Simpleburger19683 жыл бұрын
I had a similar experience : no balls involved.....it was a group of women running along a straight track into a soft wall . No sign of O or M .

Thank you both Dogs for Autism, and Andrew Cotter. I teach sketching to autistic students. One lovely student had private lessons in his home. They considered getting a dog, but the younger brother is terribly allergic so they got cat instead, to which he was even more allergic. That were they thinking? The cat did little to nothing all day except create trouble and sing cat karaoke. The house has high ceilings. My last in person lesson was when said cat tripped me at the top of the stairs. I fell from the first landing to the last leaving my poor pelvic bone a broken mess. Upside- crutches are terrific for shaping and toning one's arms. During the pandemic, the family got a labradoodle, that they love like crazy. I've shared Olive and Mabel's video's with my student. (We meet virtually.) He loves them, though asks questions like "What is a fetid pond and shouldn't she, OH NO, both of them get out of it?"

We have, always, had mixed breeds. One dog, Lanny, who was one percent of every breed stayed with me until I managed to graduate High School. I'm not Autistic and don't have Asperger's, but I have a learning impairment. When it was getting close to final exams, I asked Lanny to please stay with me until I got my Grade 12. Long Term Memory with me is a factor, too, but somethings I will never forget. We were sitting on the stairs and when I asked her to stay with me, she put one paw on my leg and leaned over so her head was on my shoulder. It was just for a minute, but I knew she was going to stick around for me. She was at least 10 years old, diabetic and arthritic when I graduated. Your book reminded me, fully, about her and every other dog we had after, especially the two Lab-Cross breeds we had. No, Lanny, was not an idiot. But one Lab/Keeshond, named Scooby, was. The other one was a Lab/Neuphie, Niles. He was intelligent and worked hard to teach Scooby the basics. Sit, Lay Down and Stay. If I said it verbally, Niles would teach him what to do with his paw. Sit, obviously, Niles would push Scooby's bum down. Lay Down, he'd put his paw on his shoulder. Stay, he would use both paws to hold him down. Eventually, Scooby understood. Thank you so much for the book!

I’m trying to imagine a Lab/Keeshond mix, and can’t. My mom’s last husband always had Keeshonds, and they were all daft. One was particularly sweet, but daft as well. Cool story; thanks for sharing it.

You are so right in saying that dogs have empathy. They sense when you are are ill. If I wasn't feeling well, my Labrador was the first to realize it. He would come and put his head in my lap and look up at me. it might be hours later (or not at all) that another family member would say, "Are you okay?" When my husband was going through chemotherapy, he'd come home from the clinic and lie down in the living room on the sofa. The dog would lie beside him on the floor and not leave his side for hours.

Have 100% related to Mr. Andrew Cutter, Olive & Mabel. We Californians don't often connect to rugby commentary. I had not heard a single Andrew Cutter commentary on any of the sports I do not understand or follow. My friend in Spain sent me the 1st Olive & Mabel video. I have no knowledge of sports broadcasting, nor rugby or even pro-tennis. Californians are into Pilates, plant-based foods, smaller global footprints. & consumible CBD cookies. I'm thrilled Andrew "pivoted" since there's been zero sports to comment upon. Not even Tokyo, it seems, over the summer. Thank you for producing such cool content via Olive & Mabel during very difficult times.PS: I'm all about children on the spectrum, helping them grasp onto safe concepts they can be proud of.Do we not all (at certain points,) display autistic symptoms, when asked to perform new tasks? Sure, we do. Olive and Mabel chill me out.

We’re not all into Pilates, plant based foods, and CBD. Some of us are ice hockey fans, and many are baseball, basketball, tennis, and football fans. My university hosted a rugby tournament. We’re surfers, hikers, swimmers, and skiers. We’re readers, writers, musicians, and artists. We’re as diverse as New Yorkers. When you write things like that about Californians, it makes others see us differently. We’re not that different from people in most places. We’re all human, many of us love our dogs, and we’re all flawed. What we’re not is one extreme that other states assume we are. Our many 5 star Michelin restaurants belie the myth that Californians eat like rabbits. Even our farmers markets have diverse foods from all over the world.

As great as dogs are for children with autism, we can't expect the dogs to do all the hard work. Dog owners still need to be responsible dog owners and see to walking, training and socialization. The people that we bought our house from had a severely autistic son. They bought a golden retriever puppy because they thought that she would be able to "work with their son." They either didn't take the time or didn't have the time to train or socialize her. She ended up spending most of her time locked in the basement or turned out in the fenced back yard. They finally rehomed her before she was three years old, which was probably better for her but heartbreaking for their other three kids. For years after we bought the house, people would ask us if ours was the house with the dog that was out all the time and was always barking at people. The basement was mess and we had to have all the flooring removed after several attempt to clean the carpet failed to remove the persistent smell. Expecting a puppy to have the self-awareness to be able to know what to do with an autistic teenager is following the same sort of logic as people who have babies to save their troubled relationships.
