3:53 1 tablespoon olive oil = 14g fat composed of 1.9g saturated, 1.4g polyunsaturated, 10g monounsaturated. That's around 2g saturated and 11.4g - 12g unsaturated. Saying olive oil is 14% saturated fat is misleading because it's also 86% unsaturated fat! Guess what? So are avocados, peanuts, almonds, macademia nuts, brazil nuts, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds. All mainly composed of small amounts of saturated fat but the rest is healthy unsaturated fats. So all those foods are unhealthy as well by your standards?
@blubaby126 жыл бұрын
It's funny how he mentioned eating fats while discouraging the ingestion of high caloric foods called "fats"; it was quite amusing considering my personal health has been restored using healthy fats (based upon research studies), while doctors scratched their heads (and still are confused) at my situation. Fruits are also high in sugar, so that is also something that needs to be clarified at the start of the video so people understand. Fruits are great for you, but not added sugars. The bottom line: processed foods, chronic/prolonged stress or trauma, lack of self-care and toxins are the root of this systemic problem.
@lunax95296 жыл бұрын
No natural foods with oil is good it’s healthy fats
@NutritionMadeSimple6 жыл бұрын
his point was that the saturated fat content of olive oil is way above 7% therefore suboptimal. the majority of nuts and seeds are in the 2-4% range for saturated fat so well within the optimal range, although there are a couple exceptions (macadamias are 12% and peanuts are 15%), it's a valid question whether those two should also be avoided. I think the bottomline is that a lot of people eat olive oil at every meal and it's that frequency that adds up. If you were having handfulls of macadamia nuts several times a day i wouldnt be surprised if someone said it wasnt ideal, although a whole food is as a rule preferrable to a processed one like olive oil where all the fiber has been taken away
@TheExplodingCore6 жыл бұрын
You are missing the entire point. The foods you mentioned: avocados, peanuts, almonds, macademia nuts, brazil nuts, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds. They are all whole foods. Not processed and eaten in their entirety. Therefore you don't consume pure fat you eat a whole food containing fat but also fiber, carbs, some protein, vitamins and other phytonutrients. To sum it up: Eat olives not olive oil.

@Cary Galloway What makes fish oil so good for you is it's omega 3 fatty acids or alpha linolic acid. These are the fat cells our bodies use to create brain tissue!!! About 18 to 30% of fish (depending on species) is omega 3 fatty acid. The thing with fish is that our ocean is currently a disaster. The mercury levels have never been higher and the micro plastic and pollution have infected almost every part of our ocean. (even the Mariana trench) Also fish oil supplements and omega 3 supplements in general are very expensive and they usually come with high levels of omega 6's and 9's along with other crap since its an unregulated market. Now compare that to extra virgin olive oil which is cheaper, well regulated, lower in toxins (Like mercury) high in omega 3's and readily available. In fact just by getting rid of other oils and just cooking with olive oil, you can get enough omega 3's to completely forgo taking an omega 3 supplement at all depending on how often you cook. So why does olive oil have bad rep? While.... Our bodies need Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9 to function. A big reason why many believe olive oil is bad is due to these omega 6 and 9 acids which many claim cause cardiovascular issues. The truth is when people start to experience long term health effects is when they have an imbalanced ratio between these 3 fatty acids, not because they are lacking a specific one. The average American consumes between 1 to 20 up to 1 to 30 omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids in the typical American FDA diet. So is olive oil inherently evil? Not necessarily by itself and I'd argue its better then fish oil!!! That brings me to your other claim about the Okinawan diet. According to www.bluezones.com "It turns out that it’s whole plant foods, not fish, that make up 90 percent of the traditional Okinawan diet: Less than 1 percent of the diet was fish; less than 1 percent was meat; and less than 1 percent was dairy and eggs. Most of the diet was based on vegetables and beans, with the most calories coming from purple and orange sweet potatoes. It’s not only a highly anti-inflammatory diet but also a highly antioxidant one." So it appears what actually made their diet so great has nothing to do with the fish but actually the beans, roots and tuber vegetables they were eating. These are very high in anti oxidants and anti inflammatories which are key to a healthy diet. I believe that these properties are so effective that it masks the mistakes they are making by eating high carbs and sugars in fruit. If you really really want to lose weight your going to have to fix your diet and lifestyle. Anyone who works out knows it's 70% what you eat 30% work out. So you must Focus a few things First fasting insulin levels its an 8 dollar blood test you can get from with your doctor ASK FOR IT MOST DOCTORS DON'T KNOW THIS. If your results are above a 9 (which most Americans are) YOUR GOING TO EXPERIENCE HEALTH ISSUES!!! cant stress it enough Next focus on your sugar and carb intake (Carbs break down directly into sugar) Chances are you are eating or drinking things that can break down into sugar in almost every single meal. Examples: pasta, bread, pizza, muffins, rice, dairy (Sugar is very sneaky) The key component in weight loss is managing your Hdl to triglyceride levels. If these two numbers are not equal or within a 1 to 1 or 1 to 4 HDL to triglyceride levels. Losing weight will be basically impossible without starving yourself. This is because of how your body is digesting your food. Since were talking about cholesterol try and limit LDL or the "bad cholesterol found in a lot of processed junk" Your omega 3 to omega 6 levels!!!!!!! I'd focus on getting rid of unnecessary oils vegetable oils, canola oils, flaxseed oil, grape seed oil etc etc etc. These will kill you. They have 30 to 70% unsaturated fats that will kill you. its in everything unhealthy mcdonalds, bk, processed food etc which is why so many Americans have 5 to 10 times the normal amount they should. I would say this is most important for American citizens. If you eliminate these omega 6 and 9 fatty acids you will drop pounds. As I said earlier you should be within a 1 to 1 or 1 to 4 range. Lectins: Beans are great but stay away from grains and if your going to eat beans cook them very well. Harvard recommends cooking beans for a few hours before they are safe as most nuts and seeds etc contain lectins. These lectins are the plants immune system and they will destroy the lining of your stomach over time which means your body cant absorb nutrients as well. I think I hit everything, lmk if you have questions. Hope this helps your health in some way, it really changed my life knowing all this. I would consider talking to your doctor about this if you were unaware about anything before.

For the last half century I have more than made up for the scarcity of olive in my diet during the first 50 years, by eating, drinking, and anointing myself with more olive oil than a Minoan pithos could hold at full capacity. Oil on cheese in yogurt on salad, on humus, on olives, figs soaked in olive oil, we have a whole range of foods called olive oil foods which are saturated in olive oil and served cold and preserved in the fridge for a week or 10 days these are green beans etc. We make eggs with olive oil we use it in baking. My grandpa drank one cup of olive oil every morning most his life. He's fine and swam + jogged till end of his 70s. The key: we use LEMON with everything that had olive oil. Loads of sumac and lemons. We use 4-5 lemons a day as a 2-3 person family.

Olive Oil is a good source of oleic acid and an endogenous ligand for PPAR ALPHA receptor in the liver enabling it to work more efficiently. Deficiencies in oleic acid lead to a slowdown in burning energy and a deleterious effect on mitochondria. A major problem is that most people will heat olive oil in a saute pan or oven breaking the double bond that exists. When that occurs, the CIS fatty acid becomes a trans fat. Hence, putting good quality olive oil in a salad is not harmful to one's health.

I'd have a hard time getting in the daily 2000+ calories with an 80 calorie salad. Even adding 2 TBL of olive oil, I'd still be hard pressed to get enough calories. And calories aren't evil. It is how many calories you ingest. Granted, you want to eat good calories that are good for your health. However, there are some errors in the video in terms of Dr. Klaper who cites olive oil being 14% saturated fat and you can't add that up to get your recommended 7% daily, since that is based on calories total per day. And you can lose weight while eating olive oil if you start a good exercise program. It would be good if Dr. Klaper would explain why Olive Oil is bad for you blood. He didn't. At 5:07 he shows two test tubes, but they look to be the exact same except one has been given time to "settle" and "separate" and the other was simply shaken up. @@thatveganmuslim We need some healthy fats in our diets. The human brain physically actually consists of mostly fat. I actually got quite ill the year I cut out ALL possible dietary fat / oils. Apparently, my body wasn't able to process and digest & absorb foods effectively without fat. Many -if not most- nutrients require fat in order to be absorbed. Part of the lactose intolerance in people is due to highly processed milk which denatures the milk and removes natural enzymes in the process which are needed for healthier digestion. Same with gluten, too much processing has created a nutritionless product. When we eat low quality food that lacks nutritional content our bodies remain hungry and just store it as fat while still craving the nutrition we're missing. It's a viscious cycle: eat crap, still need the nutrition, so you feel hungry and have some more crap that just gets stored as fat since your body is actually starving for real nutrition. The body will keep storing it unless and until it senses that it's getting enough proper nutrition and then it can start letting go of the fat store.

This man is incredibly misinformed, and the way he's projecting his misinformation is ridiculous. Fat is NEEDED for body function. Fat does NOT make you fat. Starches, refined sugars, and complex carbs make you fat because insulin spikes make you store fat. All oil should be used in moderation, but olive oil is certainly a healthier oil for human fat needs.
@Lipitorforall8 жыл бұрын
false. too many calories from ANY source will make you fat. You have a bias against starch and carbs, but if you were well informed yourself, you would learn that fish will actually raise your insulin more than POTATOES , despite having less sugar in your blood from the fish. Yes, you do need some fat for health. SOME. Not the huge amounts you've been led to believe. Even bananas have very small amounts of fat as does many other foods. But the amount we're getting from these excessive fats is not healthy. You can cut calories overall by eating high fat low carb, but there's more to health than just getting slim. Take care of your arteries.
@areuswhite96708 жыл бұрын
Lipitorforall Wrong... kinda. I've had this argument before, and I'm sorry to say that you're misunderstanding a few things. First, one study by the USA government showed that fish oil can cause an insulin response. Why? I don't know. but I don't recall any numbers that signify that insulin response being higher than potato. Second, "eating too much of anything makes you fat" is a common misconception. Actually, it's not as black and white as that. It's a very grey area. Energy (calories) itself does not make you store fat. Storing fat is a body mechanism that has a cause, and that cause is insulin. Calories can actually be discarded as waste if your body isn't equip to store it. If you're getting too many calories, but no insulin response, you wont store a lot of fat. If you're diet is 0% carb, 0% sugar, but 100% fat, you will get thin and die even though fat has a lot of calories. As far as arteries goes, multiple studies show that arteries are generally effected by certain types of fat. For instance, I recently read 2 studies showing natural meats have zero connection with heart disease or diabetes. Instead, it's processed meats. Fat does not = artery clogging. It comes down to types and ratios. Again, it's not black and white.
@Lipitorforall8 жыл бұрын
+AllisterBlack I did see the study (I'll try to find it) showing chicken, fish, and red meat do in fact raise insulin levels higher than potatoes, and even white bread. You're accurate that the mechanism for fat storage involves insulin secretion, however, the more food you eat (more calories you consume) the more you're body will secrete insulin - even from a high fat meal of protein (meat). Overall calories will always matter - regardless if we follow the insulin hypothesis or not.
@areuswhite96708 жыл бұрын
Lipitorforall I know that certain proteins can cause insulin spikes, and some hormones as well. Perhaps either of those things is what causes insulin response from eating some types of fish. Either way, the vastly dominating cause of insulin production is Carbohydrates, so by managing that, you will lower your fat storage no matter how much fat you consume... technically.
@Lipitorforall8 жыл бұрын
+AllisterBlack That's exactly opposite of what I'm seeing from the data. animal protein drives insulin MORE than carbs, from I'm seeing. Carbs raise blood sugar more quickly, however much more insulin is mobilized via meat, fish, and fowl consumption than does carbohydrates in general. So under the insulin hypothesis we would see more obesity in low carbers because more insulin is actually mobilized. The fact that low carvers lose weight actually undermines the insulin hypothesis then. Meaning overall calorie consumption is the more likely reason for weight loss - especially when we replace things like bread (2 slices approx. 1-200 calories) for more "non-starchy vegetables" (35 calories per cup of leafy greens). I'm open to opposing information, but I haven't encountered an effective response that interprets more accurately what I'm seeing.

"...they are too easy to use too much of and that's really the problem." So basically, what this man is saying is that we are too stupid to use the proper portions of salt, sugar, and oils. I COMPLETELY disagree the this doctor's advice. I have done my own research on olive oil and I am totally convinced that with proper portions, it IS heart healthy. Over eating ANYTHING (health food or not) is unhealthy. The KEY is proper portions of the right kinds of foods (olive oil is one of them) and have an active life. I am a slim person and I consume olive oil everyday. I use sensible portions because it is high in calories. In fact, I started using olive oil regularly three years ago and prefer it over canola, vegetable, corn, and other oils. The over consumption of salt and oils often come from overly processed foods which are LOADED with sodium and a parade of chemicals. That's what destroys and clogs our arteries, causes nerve damage, gives us cancer, heart attack etc. . I did moderation as well but didn't work for me. You have to try it to believe it:-) I was having maybe 3 tbsps of olive oil a day, I didn't think it was a problem, I was already eating vegan anyway. But removing that oil CURED my acne and oiliness of my skin and noticably made my capillaries resistant to breaking. The changes happened to me within days of quitting oil. I use it on my skin, I think it's lovely with a bit of esential oils. But I don't want acne again so I will not ingest it:-) Btw, I'm 37 and was suffering from acne for over 20 years. Much which comes out of the vegan movement has not been tested over time; but we do have examples Arnold Ehret who ate mostly fruits no fats, still touted by many as a leading expert; died from multiple fractures after a fall (which was not considered severe enough to have this effect). His body was so lacking in minerals- from his deficient diet. Regarding salt; i tried no salt and low salt, i now know i need salt, no question. Check out Dr Young ph miracle on salt, i think his info is good. Body can use salt to create many different nutrients, our tissues are salty, we came frim the sea.

Calories in, calories out. The body will use carbs, protein, and fat for energy. The description he gives for the effects of olive oil are misleading. For example, "Olive oil paralyzes the blood vessels _from the normal blood flow._" Something similarly could be said about cigarettes, and secondhand smoke. We expose ourselves to all kinds of toxins every day. The question is.. how *significant* are they? Notice he says paralyzes- from the _normal_ blood flow. Not, "paralyzes blood flow", which would be reason for concern. Or, "paralyzes 50% of blood flow". So really he's simply stating it impairs normal blood flow, which could mean anything. But by using the descriptor "paralyzes", his deceptive intent is revealed. I've yet to see anything presented here to provide a clear reason for concern that olive oil is seriously detrimental to health, or prevents fat loss. It's also very important to make the distinction here between *Extra Virgin Olive Oil* and just "olive oil". EVOO is cold pressed so it contains all the benefits from a whole food. It's not refined. But this is how a lot of these studies arrive at their findings, and present their data. By purposefully omitting the whole truth; by using half truths. This is the most common form of deception in marketing. The economy likewise flourishes under this law, of only providing enough information to make a sale. Caveat emptor!

***** I read your comment/explanation regarding Canola and Olive Oil BUT didn't quite understand. You say that Olive Oil brings down blood pressure by slowing down blood flow, so in a way you've proven their point ie. that Olive Oil (just like any Oil) will cause the blood to be thicker or fatter and this decreases blood flow. I don't think this decreases blood pressure because as far as I'm aware high blood pressure is partially caused by narrowing of the arteries, therefore blood is finding it harder to flow through a smaller opening. If the blood is thick then it would be even harder for blood to get through.

It is fat that the lions kill for and eat, and the lean muscle that they leave for the scavengers. Only in the last quarter century or so, throughout all of the fullness of the history of time, have saturated fats been demoted from the ordinary diet, with study after study around the world that show the mistake it has been on the health of people subject to significantly reduced or non-fat diets. A key factor is missing from this.....Vogel tested the effects of three different meals on a group of 10 volunteers who had normal cholesterol levels. One meal consisted of canola oil and bread. Another was olive oil and bread. The third meal was a piece of salmon. All three meals contained 50 grams of fat. The arteries didn't constrict much after the salmon meal. After the meal containing canola oil, they constricted slightly, reducing blood flow by 11%. After the olive oil and bread combination, however, blood flow plummeted 34% -- exactly the effect that Vogel had seen in previous research after volunteers ate a Big Mac with fries. HOWEVER ....Vogel's own research, in fact, has shown that when olive oil is combined with foods rich in antioxidants, such as vegetables, the vessel-constricting effect disappears. All you have to do is combine olive oil with red wine vinegar, which is loaded with the same antioxidants found in wine, and it appears you can prevent the deleterious effect on blood vessels. Plus, Virgin olive oil contains numerous phenolic compounds that exert potent anti-inflammatory actions The consumption of VOOs rich in phenolic compounds seems to favorably modulate inflammation, which contributes to the development and progression of CAD. In vitro and animal model studies have suggested mechanisms of action of these compounds in inflammatory activity at the cardiovascular level, including effects on the arachidonic acid cascade and on signaling pathways and receptors, improvement of vascular function, and reduction of adhesion molecules and chemokines. Moreover, these studies allow us to evaluate the isolated effects of VOO phenolic compounds. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5691704/

There are always going to be studies to support both sides. What it comes down to is that fact that we NEED fat. Our cell membranes are made of phospholipids (fats). Our brain is 60% FAT. Fat is a macro nutrient. Yes it may be low in micro nutrients (vitamins and minerals) but that's not why we eat it (although it does contain Vitamin E). It is because it is a macro nutrient. You need to eat sufficient amounts of all three macro nutrients - Carbohydrates (ideally complex ones from whole grains and vegetables, Protein (mostly plant based proteins and grass fed meat and eggs), and finally Fat (especially polyunsaturated fats like Omega 3 and 6 which are essential for health - which can come from nuts, seeds, and fish). It is extracted vegetable oils and damaged oils like fried foods and trans fats that are the enemies. Olive oil is heart healthy! It is a monounsaturated fat. Sugar is the real cause of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Sugar, too many omega 6 extracted vegetable oils and refined grains are what cause inflammation in the body. Stop demonizing Olive oil or coconut oil (healthy saturated medium chain triglyceride), they are important for your health!

Even if this is correct in any way, it’s not likely anyone can eat perfectly for very long. Fat in the bloodstream can also be misleading, loosing weight puts fat in your bloodstream as dose avocados, nuts and even fish. It wasn’t until I stopped trying to be perfect on every fad diet that I lost 150 pounds. It’s important to get on a diet you can live with for life. The vegetable soup at a restaurant is loaded with salt, oil and sugar.. not a good choice. My grandmother cooked with butter and lard and was still going to church three times a week into he late 90s. I am not saying that lard is good for you, but it’s likely a better choice than Crisco and margarine and she didn’t eat fast food or junk food and they grew a lot of what they ate. It’s about balancing your diet with good Whole Foods. Is the salad going to be better for you because you put olive oil on it? Well, vegetables can’t be good for you at all if you don’t eat them, and if a teaspoon of olive oil, some spices and some vinegar make it palatable, then I would say that your balancing your need to eat more vegetables by not eating so perfectly that you can’t eat and quit because that leads you back to the fast food and boxed junk food.

However this doctor and others like him have helped save many many people with acute degenerative diseases by encouraging them to follow a whole foods, low fat, plant based diet which includes the elimination of ALL plant oils, ALL animal foods including dairy and ALL refined foods. Eating only foods grown from the ground and processing limited to peeling, cutting, blending and cooking. The more their patients followed those guidelines they ALWAYS did better.

@@grimreaper4109 we need animal foods!!! Not wise to eliminate them. Animals are natural. I myself eat a lot of beef, veggies, fruit, rice every single day

@SY And when you can prove your way of eating can consistently halt and reverse various chronic diseases such as Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. McDougall, Dr. Neal Barnard and Dr. Goldhammer do THEN you can boast how necessary everyone else should follow your example. Until then eat the way pleases YOU.

@@grimreaper4109 The number one thing that you said that reduced inflammation was eliminating refined foods. People the world over that did this but still eat meat and EEVO have exactly the same effect. Fat and some cholesterol is part of a natural human diet and this has caused countless people to eliminate or greatly reduce all forms of inflammation to include arthritis, organ inflammation and other chemical reaction conditions. There is no question this diet works as millions eat it daily. So almost any diet can work as long as you include fat and cholesterol with lots of fiber and no refined anything. And if a person still wants to eat just plants, that is cool for them as well.

An American telling us the downside of olive oil, when Americans have the highest obesity in the world due to eating junk food full of trans-fats. I live in France.
@mdskydive7245 Жыл бұрын
That is correct. Biggest food threat is trans fats and refined processed foods, which turn into sugar and high inflammation. Which all of this makes fat people.

I find it interesting that he keeps referencing the fatty blood when someone eats a high fat meal. He also acknowledged that not all people have a fatty blood content like the example shown, and most of the meals he talks about are obviously high in fat and happen to have a side salad with olive oil on it. My question is, if you eat JUST the salad, and you eat whole food plant based, then wouldn't a little olive oil on that huge salad that's full of berries, greens, seeds, tomatoes, mushrooms be considered healthy? Especially when the rest of your diet has little to no saturated fat, trans fat, sugars, and salts? Seems like there's more too it than just showing a bunch of pictures of people eating obviously horrible meals and also including olive oil with the hypothetical side salad to make it heart healthy.

When you consume fat, even just olive oil, it fattens your blood. Is it really that difficult to understand or you just don't want to accept the truth?
@TheBeardedSandman2 жыл бұрын
@@VeganSemihCyprus33 Just looking at your username, I can already tell you're biased against any use of animal products and most likely use "bad fat" as a justification. Studies consistently show those who eat olive oil along with a diet that's rich in vegetables, whole grains, and modest amounts of grass fed animal products are healthier than those who eat a standard American diet full of highly processed and oxidized vegetable oils, refined grains, and processed grain fed meats. This guy's claims are totally erroneous and based on bad science and a ton of bias.

So you can see why I'm in the mood for celebration!:-)
