For people who don't know, UNDERTONES are different from SKINTONES. Your skintone or surface tone can change with seasons or sun exposure. (e.g.- redness or tan due to sun). But your UNDERTONE never changes. There are 4 types of UNDERTONES - Cool, Warm, Neutral, Olive. Any of these 4 undertones can be seen in ANY skintone ranging from pale to dark. UNDERTONES ARE NOT LIMITED TO PARTICULAR SHADES OF SKIN. COOL undertone - 💙a.k.a Pink undertone💕 💙blue/purple veins on the inside of your wrist, 💙easily get sunburnt, 💙don't get tanned WARM undertone - 🧡a.k.a Yellow undertone💛 🧡green veins on the inside of your wrist, 🧡easily tanned, 🧡no sunburn NEUTRAL undertone - 🖤both green & blue/purple veins on the inside of your wrist OR can't pinpoint the exact colors of those veins, 🖤tan/sunburn varies from person to person, 🖤can be further classified as: 1) PURE NEUTRAL undertone, 2) NEUTRAL undertone leaning towards YELLOW, 3) NEUTRAL undertone leaning towards PINK OLIVE undertone - 💚most confusing undertone of all 4 💚identified as a greenish tinge to your complexion 💚can vary from a very slight tinge to a very noticeable tinge 💚OLIVE undertone almost always comes paired with a NEUTRAL undertone, but some people can also have (OLIVE+WARM) or (OLIVE+COOL) undertones 💚aside from that, OLIVE undertone can also come as mixture of 3 as- (olive+neutral+warm) or (olive+neutral+cool) 💚most foundations don't work well for OLIVE undertone even when the shade matches to SKINTONE (e.g- warm foundation shades can look too yellow/orange, cool shades can look too pink, while pure neutral shades can drain out the complexion or look too gray) 💚so the nearest matches for OLIVE tend to be NEUTRAL shades leaning toward warm or cool

This video taught me sooo much! Most people think of Olive skin as tanned, but what you explain makes so much sense! My Dad is European background and his skin color would go so much darker in the summer and I would get told I had olive skin as a kid in the summer, cos I used to tan so easily from playing outdoors and I have that yellow undertone. Then as a teen, I wanted to be the opposite and I mostly stay away from the sun, cos I like to be pale & wear sun screen often & I also take Vitamin D lately cos I was very low on that. And my skin tone looks yellow compared to friends with more the pinkish tone and I will still tan so easily without getting sun burn. And yes, yes on scarring easier, a small iron burn etc takes so much longer to heal on me than other people. Oh thank you for explaining all this :)

I am SOOO happy you addressed this! There's a huge misconception that only medium to dark skin people have olive undertones even in the makeup artist (not just "gurus") community and it drives me NUTS! I'm grateful that you're able to educate people and tell them otherwise! :) I know so many girls who couldn't figure out their skintones because they didn't know olive skin can be pale. I personally have a neutral undertone and am super pale too (think maybe 2-3 shades lighter than the Missha one in No. 13) and I completely understand how annoying it is that almost all pale foundations are pink (even if they're not they're still too dark for me but still XD).

@@bennu547 omg xD I also tend to look like an oompa loompa when in early spring and I start to use my medium dark foundation. But I look dead, dull with my winter lighter foundation ;_;. It's because of the yellow, greenish undertones of our skin, especially around the mouth, nose, chin area. I have yet to find a purple primer that evens out that part of my skin. It's actually quite spooky how accurate this is for me. In a good way! I know about scarring and leaving horrid marks, unfortunately... A question to any other fellow olive-skinned people: Do you also have vitiligo? I never really noticed it until one Summer when I was tanning outside and when I came in I thought I had left suntan lotion on my stomach but it was actually the loss of colour pigment hahaha. This is such a cool and informative video!

ALSO! Makeup-wise, I used No.7. I had a skin tone test and personally for me, their makeup is the best. PERFECT match for my skin tone! And for concealing under my eyes I use " L'oreal lumi magique base primer " Works a treat ~!

Yes me to. I got the hyper pigmentation, I scar easy and forever, I got the combination skin, I can never find foundation that matches, because I'm also a weird medium/tan shade that changes like 4 times a year. It's obnoxious, so I generally just don't wear make up. But I'm getting tired of looking like a oily scarred mess all the time.
@Amberoo
@Amberoo 10 жыл бұрын
nickey g Have you tried going to a No.7 booth at all? (Like I said in the comment I posted after my first one) I went to them and they were perfect for me! They do a skin test and match you with one of their foundations that is closest for you. For my face, I use the "3 step" from Clinique. It was just a random decision to go to the ladies there but they were so helpful, they do like a quiz haha and it ends up with what products are right for you :) I could have just picked up any old cleanser/toner/moisturizer (which is probably loads cheaper haha) but this has helped with my face! ... Also changing my diet so I don't have fat greasy spots haha
@Elysia07
@Elysia07 10 жыл бұрын
Amberoo B Actually, right before I saw this comment, I started looking into the clinique 3 step routine. I have been seeing some results with using just any old cleanser, and neutragena 2-in-1 fight and fade, zapzit, and any old moisturizer. But my zapzit got lost as I was moving, and I'm noticing a difference since not having it. I've gone to an Este Lauder booth when I was a teenager to get my shade matched. (I actually just threw that make up away with the move. It was probably waay past expired) I'm currently using Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in Medium. But it's a little to pink for me. It matches pretty well, but I can tell a difference in that and in the super olive tones in my neck.
@Amberoo
@Amberoo 10 жыл бұрын
nickey g Really? Haha no way! There's the whole Clearasil range, but people have told me that that stuff gives you spots as opposed to getting rid of them! So I've always been cautious of any old ones. I've not heard of Zapzit before. Oooh I've not tried Este Lauder before, is that good to use? Sometimes I find certain popular brands have their foundations and bases either too pinky, or too yellow :/ I use L'Oreal's Lumi Magique Primer as a base for under my eyes, it really does brighten them up/make you less tired looking! Word of advice: if you do buy it don't put it all over your face as a base... your face will like a shiny pearl haha.

I wish people would understand the difference between light olive skin and actual pale skin and stop calling people like Gwen Stefani and Shakira pale. There are so many people(especially on videos about pale skin) that say they tan very easily and have a yellow or olive undertone however insist they are skin type 1 or 2 no matter how much you try to explain that it's not possible just by definition.
@Kelsie154
@Kelsie154 8 жыл бұрын
Seriously though. When I was in my tanning phase, they put me in a level one bed because I was "pale", thinking I would burn in any of the other beds. No amount of trying to explain to them that I am NOT a 1 or even a 2 would convince them. Needless to say, I forced them into letting me in their level 4 bed, at max time. I didn't burn (and barely even tanned), and they were all super shocked. lol

I use the same exact bb cream that you do. I'm not sure if I have olive skin (I'm pretty sure my mom does, especially based on your description) but what I liked about it was the yellow undertones and the paleness of number 13 which matched my skintone perfectly. I've seen people with fair skin who tried it and it didn't look good on them at all, because their skin has cooler undertones. I have light skin because I don't get enough sun but I tan very very easily. I have perma dark circles under my eyes, can have blotchy skin, bruises that last for years. I'm not sure if I have thicker skin or not, but it's thinner than my mom's for sure.

My skin has this same thing but is most prominent on my back: if you look it looks like someone literally took two different colored pencils and stippled them both into my back, so these darker spots travel up my back and it's completely obvious. I also see lighter spots on my neck and (brace yourself) my breasts. I know a lot of African Americans who are lighter can suffer more with this than others. I think I get this from my dad; I see some spots on his back when he asked me to scratch it. I also have pink/red tones in my skin, which you can see under certain light, yet when it's super sunny outside, I almost look like I'm white, especially my feet. Native runs though my blood on my father's side, and lets just say that I'm the recessive child so I got all of those traits; everyone else in my family is a brown/chocolate to a dark brown.

Pat McGrath Labs makes a few foundations in olive undertones. One shade has a lighter cooler olive undertones and the other two have darker warmer olive undertones. I think that Pat McGrath Labs has other light foundation shades that don't have 'olive undertone' descriptions but still look more on the olive side though which is why it's better to look at those foundations in person.

This was interesting! I'm pale but I have olive/yellow undertones (I feel like it makes more sense to just say yellow since white people are generally speaking not olive skinned, right? Or am I wrong?) It definitely comes from my dad's side of the family, because him and his brothers were slightly darker in hair and complexion, while my mom is a strawberry blonde with freckles. I tan easily too, have hazel eyes and was blonde as a kid but my hair faded to a more ashy brown. My veins look blue, though. Weird. Some good warm toned foundations/concealers I've found over the years: L'oreal color match in W 1/2, Revlon colorstay concealer in 02 Light, Ulta concealer in light warm (although that dries a little orange on me sometimes.)

I'm not big fan on leaving comments however this video was awesome. Thank you for taking your time to do this. I was just about to do some research on olive skin which would of taken me hours. Well worth it I'm sure. :) When I came across your video and it happen to be the first one I clicked on! ;) Thanks to your hard work I get to take notes and process in all this information from a great 10min video I love it.The video answered a few questions I had and help me understand my skin so much more! ;) I know its crazy but I'm really happy I came across your video. Best of luck with your channel. =)

My entire family in Italy has never used sun block and we have never had any skin cancers for generations... thank God. we use Nivea or coconut oil to tan. My sister on the other hand has more of a skin type 2-3 with a cool undertone. People have always asked me if I am Indian or mixed with african.... then in the winter people ask me if I am Russian.

I have really pale olive skin too, when I was younger I had much darker skin, I think the best way to actually get rid of the dark circle is by putting a little bit of almond oil on it, this is the thing that worked best on mine.

This is fascinating because I realized a long time ago that I was a pale olive too, but I've never seen anyone talk about it. I clearly am though, I'm very green in photos. But my veins are blue in some places and green in others so it's still weird. My father is dark olive, even though we're definitely white people lol. I scar SO badly, even get stretch marks easily, and get dark spots, and because of the hyperpigmentation I have to get a neutral foundation to even out all the different colors. Great video! 👍

I knew I had olive skin anyways but still watching there are just so many relatable things about this video. I used to get so tanned when I was little but then I stopped so now I just look yellow. I have stretch marks as well that I know I'm gonna have for ages but idc because It's only from growing too fast. And I have dark circles. I feel like my skin is very oily as well. My mum says that her side of the family originated from Scotland but I'm not sure if she's on about my nan or my grandad though I think it's my nan as my grandad got extremely dark. It's interesting to know that my grandads side could've come from a sunnier place though. I'm from England so I understand the no sun thing. Though I barely go outside anyways. I also always tend to look sick though I think it's because of olive skin+paleness.

Thanks for this video, I learned a lot of new things. Both sides of my family are Italian, so olive complexion is very prominent. I can relate with the hyper-pigmentation thing the most, mines so bad that I've been bullied because of it. no makeup that I've found will cover it and because my skin is oily it just makes things worse. I guess the only good thing us that I look like im in my early 20s (as opposed to age 30!) well, glad to know its not just me out there who struggles. Keep doin what ur doin Peachie!

Great video! Wow. I know you say if you have red or auburn hair you can’t have olive skin. I have olive skin and when I’m pale my undertones which makes me look paler than people who have red undertones. I’m actually am a dark caramel blonde naturally and it’s very warm so some may say it looks reddish. I also have some tiny freckles on my shoulders. I do have red in my face from using Retin A and other topical meds for acne/oily skin so I’ve had makeup artists not give me the correct color of foundation and it doesn’t match my neck due to The redness on my T-Zone. Although I rarely burn, I do get reddish/bronze is if go out in the sun then it fades to more olive/gold. My skin is super thick and oily. Olive skin is common everywhere in Europe and not just exclusive to Southern Europeans like me. I’ve seen lots of Irish, French, Polish, Russian and Swedish people with olive skin. I will say I do notice some Brits and Scottish have olive skin but they have more people with red undertones. In Southern Europe there’s a good amount of people with red, yellow and beige undertones but not as much as Brits and Scottish.

Really informative x I am luke you. Maybe a few shades darker but I think it comes from Spanish heritage. My dad claims the scotts n irish apparently took in some spanners a looooool time ago. I'm talking in the days Scottish still had their own gaelic language. Apparently that's where a lot of scotts and so on get the darker skin tones from. My dad is very dark but I have a deathly pale irish mother! It's true we scar easily and have combination oily skin. Those that cannot find the right shade of foundation if slightly pale can use a yellowish tone foundation which when blended will look spot on. Never go for pinkish colours in foundation if you are olive toned. As u can see from my pic I tan easily. I was very pale on my first day. The pic of me is only my second day away and I was wearing factor 50!!!
