Hi Mark, I know this works because I copied you earlier this year. At first, I thought that I had cut back to much and I thought that I had killed it. After a little while new shoots grow and my Olive tree looks better than ever. Thank Mark. 😊

The dog was just letting you know how great the trees look! I love finding a plant or tree on clearance, half dead, and growing it into something nice! Sometimes it works for me, sometimes not. But worth a go! As usual very educational video. Thanks!

I have an olive tree in our front garden it's been there for 10 year's I prune it every year into lollipop style, but last winter, it lost a lot of leaves 🍃 but it's com back this year but I have not pruned it. hopefully it will be OK for this winter .. Great videos and good advice 👍 I also have one from Aldi in my greenhouse, which I am caring for as it was half dead seems to be coming back ....

Thanks for this. Nice to hear of other experiences. It seems Aldi did not care too well for there stock accross the country 🙁

Your olive tree videos are some of the best on KZbin Mark. I always refer back to you top 10 tips when my olive tree needs attention. Have you tried to propagate them yet? Interested to see a video on that.

Such wonderful and informative videos. I have done exactly as you've advised with my olive tree, cut it right back and after about 4 months I'm beginning to see new shoots which I am thrilled about. The only thing is, the shoots only seem to be on one side of the plant, do you think the other side will catch up? I have checked and the branches have green running through them, so still alive. Thank you again for such fab videos 👍

Hi Mark, can I ask is it too late to prune Olive tree now in October ? It has lost all its leaves and very leggy but there is green leaves nearer the centre ? thank you
@MarksHouseandGardenUK2 ай бұрын
Hi there. Probably just about ok. Although if new tender leaves do emerge before winter they may get damaged by frost. I wouldn't wait too much longer. Alternatively wait until spring time. Mark

Hi Mark! About a year ago we had a little chat about my new olive tree and my intention for it to live inside. I did give up on that, and had it outside until this winter, when I thought it was miserable and brought it in. When I brought it in, it dried out and lost all its leaves (this was early December) and I did cut some of the branches because I was desperate to see if it was still alive. It turns out some were, some not, so I decided to only go halfway and wait until Spring to go all the way in. Now it's done something very bizarre, where it picked two branches and grew massively, I am talking 30 cm each branch, and it is not strong enough to sustain them so they're bending down. I wish I could attach a picture for you to see. Very very strange! Honestly I am not even sure I know what to ask, haha! I just thought I'd tell you this.
@MarksHouseandGardenUK10 ай бұрын
Well it's great news that it is still growing 😊 perhaps a little further into the year cut those two back to redress the balance? Mark

Hi Mark, how did the olive tree go that was fully cut and leaves removed? Will it still photosynthesis without any leaves? I’ve transplanted 3 olive trees and they lost all their leaves😢

It came back strongly and I gave it as a house warming present to my friend. It is doing well.

I've been wrapping my olive bonsai in horticultural fleece at night in winter and I also wrap the bowl it's in with bubble wrap. But . . . do I need to do all that? Will a frost or temps dipping below 0 C harm it? Really appreciate your opinion! (Btw, I don't prefer bonsai but I rescued this tree when someone put it out on the curb).
@MarksHouseandGardenUK10 ай бұрын
Hi. I suspect it's not absolutely necessary, but if you can do it why not? It would be a shame to lose it. If it's always worked I would continue
@brocktoon810 ай бұрын
Thanks for your advice. I agree with you, I think the tree likes it so why not continue. I will do so! : ) @@MarksHouseandGardenUK

Hi Mark, I have an Olive tree I planted in the garden 9 years ago. Having watched and subscribed to your channel, other than a couple of light pruning efforts I realise now I have neglected the Olive Tree. It has become very 'woody' and tall with most leaves high up to one side of the tree. I desparately want to recover it but really don't know where to start. It has reached approx. 4 metres in height. If possible, any guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Rob.

Hi mark! Can I ask, what would you recommend for other olive issues, for example coming out of winter and leaves being blotchy etc - I read up about peacock spot and fungus but not sure what is best or if this is just normal coming out of winter and not actually an issue
@MarksHouseandGardenUK9 ай бұрын
Hi there. If you have identified a specific pest or problem with certainty I would say look up the appropriate remedy. However, my experience is that Olives like many plants will find the cold season stressful but will recover as part of there normal cycle and generally all it takes is proper care when we return to the growing season and they will rejuvenate. I top dress mine early spring and give a light prune. Best wishes. Mark

Mark, I too have just rescued an olive tree from Aldi, it's not looking too bad but I'm wondering if it's too late to repot it or should I wait for the spring?
@MarksHouseandGardenUK Жыл бұрын
hi Jacqueline, I think it's borderline. If it was mine I'd wait, store it in a cool sheltered part of the garden, don't let it dry out but don't over water, it should go dormant over winter then you can perform this operation come spring time. i suspect we're in for some cold days shortly which won't be beneficial for root growth if it's repotted. mark

I'll take your advice Mark, thank you very much.

I also found one at Aldi for about the same price and poor condition as well. It is about 1/3 the sz of yours. Also they topped it off way low so if I cut back, it will really be tiny standard. When would it be too late for a tight pruning😢?
@MarksHouseandGardenUK Жыл бұрын
Hi Angie. I would hold off now personally until spring when the sap starts rising again. Let it rest through the winter then prune mid to late spring. Mark

Excellent video Mark, we bought a 2 foot Olive tree 10 years ago from Tesco for £10, we eventually planted it in our garden in Bury, South facing, we feed it twice a year and leave it unpruned. Its now 8ft tall and looking superb. Weve now planted another and looks brilliant with our musa basjoo and fatsias. Keep up the great work!
