Oh, I am sorry, I should have known that you go by Celsius not Fahrenheit! So, 5 to 10 C, I think in winter is 40-50F? Mine of course MUST be potted so I can overwinter them in my greenhouse. I do know in the ground where they grow naturally or places like Italy and Israel etc, they can get quite old, the Bible mentions olives too. I don't expect mine to get big in a pot, maybe just 4-5 feet and that is maybe a little more than a meter. I think 4 feet is a meter, plus maybe a mans shoe size more, average mans foot size. Even if I don't ever get any olives on my 2 Olive trees, the tree is a nice tree for looks. Thanks for the reply.

I'm in the USA, and I have 2 regular Olive trees in pots, so, I do not think they are mission olives ,so, Olea Europaea, is what they must be. My big question is what fertilizers should I sue for potted Olea Europaea? I did hear about adding Bone meal for the "Mission Olive", so, is that okay for O. E.?
@chompers11
@chompers11 2 жыл бұрын
Did you ever find anything out?
@juliegogola4647
@juliegogola4647 2 жыл бұрын
@@chompers11 I THINK I just used some chicken manure (in a bag that was composted) added to the soil in the pot. Like sprinkled on the surface, and scratch in as good as I could without repotting. When I do repot, I'll add some bat guano, seaweed and well draining soil. I have that written down on a tablet on my desk. I'll likely give a bit of a continuing search on the soil needs too before doing just the bat guano and seaweed. I have a fert with "sea ingredients" in it, so, maybe that would be good too. PH should be 6-7. Btw, I have the Olive that grows Olives on it, so, Olea Europaea. My GH gets too hot for me to grow fruits on it, I am pretty sure of that. When I got it, it had some on it, but, I couldn't pickle them right and they tasted foul anyway. The plant needs cool temps in winter, about 50F is max temp in winter the majority of nights.
@stevebardella_farm-nature7bis
@stevebardella_farm-nature7bis 2 жыл бұрын
@@juliegogola4647"When I got it, it had some on it, but, I couldn't pickle them right and they tasted foul anyway." but before putting them in the vinegar did you deamarise them? To remove the bitterness from the olives and make them pleasant, you have to keep them in water for at least 40 days, if you want to speed up this operation you have to prick them with a toothpick or a needle in various points each, or one works faster, about ten days, you have to crush them in a mortar by opening the pulp, and put them in water, but you must in any case replace it with new water twice a day. faster
@juliegogola4647
@juliegogola4647 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevebardella_farm-nature7bis Crush them? Wouldn't they be all a mass of squished yuckiness then? I was hoping to have whole olives at the end of the process.
@stevebardella_farm-nature7bis
@stevebardella_farm-nature7bis 2 жыл бұрын
Dear Julie You see, if you have noticed I have talked about three methods to deamarise, and these are distinguished above all by the speed with which the sweet and pleasant olive is obtained, I wrote: you can leave it as it is harvested, prepare 50 days by changing clean water constantly morning and evening, or immersed in caustic soda then with the help of chemistry, very fast but not really healthy, even after having rinsed them for a long time and are the olives that you buy in the store processed with this industrial method that shortens the time, or in alternative to pierce them, reduce the time because the water penetrates the fruit or crush them but you do not have to produce oil, you just have to break the pulp by opening a passage to the water, think here in Italy, in addition to being processed in this way for centuries, table olives, in addition to being whole or salted, are produced (caustic soda, remember?) crushed and seasoned with olive oil, oregano, (wild fennel for those who can stand it) chilli, a a little bit of wine vinegar, garlic (not excessive) and no other salt because they are already salty, they are a delicacy, CRUSHED NOT DISINTEGRATED, I privately produce about 20 kg per year for home, obviously I have an olive grove with more than 250 plants, almost all self-produced with the Margotta technique (this is my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHuxn3t_aL-cipI) with oil olives and a small table prte of various kinds, therefore the you will have crap only if you adopt CAUSTIC SODA to speed up the elimination of the bitterness in the olive. Greetings
