There can only ever be one Fagin for me...what an absolute joy to see Ron so full of it & obviously enjoying himself. His voice still sounded great for a man in his eighties too. Ron & Jack Wild (God rest him) absolutely stole the show in the Oliver film, & as for that skipping type dance at the end...Classic. I`m off to put the dvd now. Thanks for posting.

I played OLIVER opposite VINCENT PRICE in the National tour here in the U.S. Years later I met Ron Moody in Beverly Hills. I introduced myself and he was extremely humble and nice. When I told him I played Oliver when I was 10 he acted impressed. When I said, "I did it with Vincent Price", he looked at me and said, "oh really? And who did he play" ?

One of the most impressive shows I have ever seen. I agree that Ron Moody has always been 'THE' Fagin in most people's minds and affection but my word, Russ gave a performance that wwas every bit as good in my view. And as for the show and the stage sets ..... Stunning. Thanks so much for posting this video.

Vincent Price was a great Fagin. As a person he was extremely unpretentious, very accessible, everybody's friend. He also inserted his own dialogue into the script that had the audience in stitches. He could get away with it being Vincent Price. He also had me believing everything in the movies was REAL.

Jack Costello is Charlie on the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" original London cast album.

Dickens story was a political comment in a newspaper of the late Georgian period, showing the inevitable moral and physical decline of the poor (who were totally ignored by the rich), after parliament had made their only refuge, the workhouse, even less livable. I don't think spirituality comes into it. Oliver was born to be hung that's why he has the name Twist (victorian slang for noose) and Dicken's shows why. But point taken, how it gets to be a lovely children's musical is beyond me too.
