I feel that AO was shaming the system more than the "obese". He was making a point about food stamps, of which there is nothing wrong with needing them because people need help, being utilized for unhealthy food and drink. The current food stamp system is broken. Someone can literally use all their food stamps to buy cases of soda in most if not all states. People are setting up vending machines as an all cash business and using food stamps to stock them. Making thousands a week and paying zero taxes on it (paying back into the system they are taking advantage of) all while utilizing food stamps they don't need. Do most people use food stamps that way? Of course not, but enough do to call the system broken. Food stamps should have a limit on junk food with the vast majority allocated to healthier options. My belief is that it's just an analogy for a broken system.

compare the thousands of dollars made from food stamp sales to big name companies who make billions of dollars without having to pay any taxes for their production. obese people using food stamps aren’t causing an economic crisis, there are several other factors that are involved with this, such as big name companies having more control of the economic climate in comparison to the government. AO’s sentiments are real and relatable, but they are also bigoted and misinformed. Obese people buying doritos with Food stamps isn’t the reason Louisiana still pays min wage of 7.25, and it isnt the reason prices are rising.

I think it was more about the fudge rounds and less about the individual consumers. More about the system profiting off our own misery.
@Jermz1979 Жыл бұрын
@@saladz3657 maybe, but I don't think it was that deep. He said himself that the entire song wasn't some deep introspective look at modern society and that he pretty much just put his thoughts into lyrics.

those who have lived or live south of 1-10 fully understand the reference made, and Cajun/ Acadians peoples should also fully understand regarding people shaming. Keep up the good work, stay true to yourself, and don't let these couyons affect your life.

Well said. We are (most of us) way too hard and judgemental on ourselves already, live and let us ALL live. I wanted to perform the song myself but I would have changed a few words too. Firstly I'm not American but the same problems and imbalances seem to be occurring worldwide at the moment which is what lends this song some of its universal potency (we all know something's awry, many try to turn a blind eye but we know). I would have needed to localise it for the UK plus not bash any vulnerable groups of folk when I truly don't feel that way. Also I don't think I have the minerals and gritty projection needed to do the song justice like Oliver Anthony or Dustin Dale Gaspard (great cover btw). I love this song and I understand OA's frustration over some of the skewed priorities and unhelpful choices govermnents right across the world have made lately. These choices have tended to divide and isolate the common folk and strong, powerful songs like this could, should re-unite.

Oliver Anthony music. Chris is signing about the misuse of the foodstamps, not the need for them. If you've worked as a cashier you'll know exactly what he's talking about. Don't misconstrue his words. I've seen people buy junk food for themselves while their skinny, scrawny kids' are fingers hanging on the counter edge looking up at you, their hunger crying from their big, wide eyes, and you know their bellies are not getting filled on soda, potatoe chips and red vines.

The song has many people talking to each other and that's better than having them screaming because one has blue eyes and the other has green eyes. Bet both have money problems.

Every Tom Dick and Harry has to do a remix 😂. People have and will always be hyenas no more no less. People can't come up with their own pain so they live through others. And nobody will ever fix anything just bitch and cry. And this isn't to you directly is to everyone. You're only doing what most people do. Like everybody does. And they will look the other way to actual issues.

Covering another dudes song 2 weeks after it came out is a little scammy…let the guy enjoy his time he earned it…plus being afraid to sing the lyrics as they were written is weak
@TravisTyler266 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, covering a song by another artist is a tribute and a tip of the hat to the original artist and the song itself. People cover songs all day every day, both new and old. In fact, Ryan Upchurch released his remix of Broadway Girls before Morgan Wallen even released the original track. He had every right to. Only catch is that if you were to make a substantial amount of money from the remix or cover then you should definitely pay dues to the original artist, but this isn't that, so I don't see what the problem is. Let the sheep talk and the lions walk.

kicking down at the obese is cringey. I believe he means that our system creates a dependence and reliance on unhealthy food. I know he is a homesteader and grows their own food. and that is out of reach for most people. but its not how the song says it. its awkward and it soundd bad. by the way half of our taxes go to war, so food assistance is the least of our worries. kudos for adjusting. I love him and I will give you a listen too~!
