@@newsbender You're not wrong there. Funny enough, I was just thinking earlier today.. I don't think Oliver would have liked the world today. He'd probably have found it very strange, if not ridiculous. Even in the 60s and 70s he always seemed to be a man that would have fit in better in an earlier time.. as he even found many things in the mildly progressive 70s odd, so I can only imagine what he'd have though of the present day. I don't like how the world has ended up.. I look back to these old times and think "I wish I'd have been around in those days.. living in the 70s before everything went wrong." He would have felt very out of place in the current era, with all the social change.. political correctness and mass offended, social media and smartphones.

I live near Broom Hall and when I was a teenager my friend lived there with his family in the 80s/90s when it had been divided 3 or 4 separate, but still, massive houses. There were peacocks painted on the ceiling of the dining room and a well stocked wine cellar. We wood climb out of a top floor window and go onto the flat roof drinking and the like. Enjoyed the video. What unique madman he was. 😂😁

That's what they all say. Same with O'Toole, Harris and the likes of Dean Martin. But let's be honest. They all had drinks problems. Which in 1 way, adds to the legend - but in another, the likes of Ollie were taken advantage of. Plied with alcohol in the green room before talkshow appearances, and then sent to make fools of themselves. While the talk show host would tut with false indignation, as if they had no idea what was going on.

Funny, looking back to when Ollie died at 61, some 25 years ago it seemed to me like he wasted so much talent and opportunity. But in fact now that I’m his age I feel as though I’m the one who’s wasted, barely scratching the surface of a middling engineering career, and on the eve of being turfed out by AI. Ollie did at least rack up many great performances that he will be remembered for by millions amongst the well documented shenanigans that he also enjoyed to max 😂

Oliver said yes absolutely he was prepared of course to support the Welfare State but alas that was the 1970,s , he stayed when the Conservative Party won in 1979, now we in 2025 with another Labour wrecking crew in charge have the same problem, people are leaving in droves who have money, the clowns in charge then in the 1970,s ( 1976 onwards) have their equivalent in 2025 forcing the money people out, some things never change.
