I used to play clarinet when I was young. I’ve been listening to you for years and despite being from Canada and not Jewish, I have always been drawn to Klezmer music. I am adopted and my heritage is from Czechoslovakia, so maybe it’s something I carry with me somehow… Thanks for the inspiration. I’ve been playing clarinet again, and it’s wanting to learn how to play Klezmer that was my inspiration to play again…

Absolutely. Music unites. Can't forget the time when I was almost not allowed entry to a Klezmer concert, because I was not Jewish. My reply to the security mad was : '' Why, do you have to be Jewish to like Klezmer music? ''

How would they know if you were Jewish or not? We don’t all wear identifying clothes, or yarmulkes etc.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:14 🎶 *Klezmer is often described as "Jewish jazz" expressing joy with tears, reflecting the emotional prayers in synagogues.* 02:11 🎭 *Klezmer musicians, not strictly bound by tradition, embraced creativity and rule-breaking, especially in the vibrant context of weddings.* 03:05 💃 *Klezmer music plays a significant role in Jewish weddings, where dancing is considered a mitzvah (good deed) and a reason to be happy.* 04:44 🎻 *Klezmer musicians historically collaborated with gypsies, both being the only groups permitted to be professional musicians outside of orchestras in Russia.* 08:14 🌍 *Klezmer's universal appeal allows it to be mixed with various genres, emphasizing that cultural background doesn't limit musical expression.* Made with HARPA AI
