I feel like we're moving too fast with technology, it's scary when you think about how so much has changed in such a short amount of time. We don't take enough time appreciating what we have, we're obsessed with making things better. I've never understood why there needs to be a new iPhone released every year.

Companies love making as much money as possible, and to do so they need to keep on top of the market. So that’s why they release one each yeah to ensure they are still popular and can make a ton of money

I've read an interesting amount of stuff splitting empathy, sympathy, and compassion. I'm someone with relatively low empathy (not by choice! I just struggle to feel as though I'm in someone else's place if I haven't experienced it), and all it means is I rely on sympathy and showing compassion. What I've read has effectively boiled down to - you don't need to /feel/ what someone else is feeling in order to be there for them.
@JayJasperLondon4 жыл бұрын
Empathy is so important but it’s still not quite clear if it’s something you have or something that can be learned and if it’s something u taught urself - through therapy or whatever - does it still add the same type of quality to the human side of your personality, your “goodness” .. plus there is a difference between empathy and true compassion. You can witness a person’s pain and empathise by putting yourself in their shoes and imagining the pain YOU would feel in that very same situation.. but that would still just be YOUR way of looking at it and feeling the impact, NOT THEIRS... If on the other hand YOU’RE in pain too, not just because u imagine what it would feel like (i.e. empathise with them) but because you’ve done that and it effects you so much that you hurt from seeing them in pain.. THAT is true compassion.. and something u can never imitate or learn.. it’s a connection that simply happens and you can’t get more human, more humane than that

There was a BBC programme years ago about what makes us human. I like the idea behind what they said. We are not the only species to use and make tools but we are the only ones to decorate them. So art. I love that.

I have a hard time being empathetic. Like I understand when something is sad but I just don’t feel any emotional connection.

I was 10 when the moon landing took place and that's when my family bought our first color (I'm American thus no u in color😊) Television. The moon landing was big, but the Personal Computer along with the Internet changed humans so much more. Which makes me think the invention of the telephone probably was mind blowing to my great grandparents.
@xzonia14 жыл бұрын
You make a good point. My grandfather crossed the US in a covered wagon to get here to Texas, and he still had the first phone his family ever owned mounted to the wall of his living room ... it looked like this: lunarmobiscuit.com/selling-the-first-telephone/ He also had a modern phone in his house, but I think it wowed him when he got that first one and could connect to people without having to physically be there and so always kept it. He died in 1984, so he never saw the Internet as we know it today, but if he were around I think he'd have loved connecting to people from around the world on it. He'd still want to see people in person, too, but I think he'd love connecting online. :)

I'd have to say money, as it's so unique to the human race. Or maybe the justice system, to ensure that fairness is upheld. The idea of fairness actually is the original point of both of those ideas so maybe that

I think our ways of communicating are also very defining to our species. It's so weird that we can learn about things that happened on the other side of the continent in a few minutes. Or how you guys making this video somewhere near London, can make me think about certain topics somewhere in the Netherlands

I find it really interesting/frightening how technology is constantly making progess with things like AI and cloning, but we haven't spent a lot of time thinking about how close to human something can be before it is human. What is the difference between a very advanced AI and a person? Movies like Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 really bring this home. If something looks human, acts human, has human attributes and feelings, then how will we deal with that? In Blade Runner 2049, K talks about the difference is that as a clone he wasn't born and doesn't have a soul, but souls are not even something we know exists and what difference does it make if someone is cloned or born, in the end?
