CeaoS spoken as someone who's never taken an art course. as someone with quite a bit of experience in humanities and art, i could go into a very long rant about your perception of art but i'll save you the time of reading it and just say: culture is subjective and "everything is art these days" is literally such a hilarious statement because you're essentially getting mad that people find certain things beautiful or interesting enough to spend time on. like. seriously, dude.

CeaoS it is very much dependant on the intent behind the piece, frankly. and you really don't get to decide what other people do or don't find to be art. do you only consider renaissance work to be art? some of the best artists in history made art that you probably would consider "not art" yet their art changed the tone of the artistic community as well as created entire movements of artistic styles.

If you don't get slam poetry, then don't watch it but stop criticizing things just because you can't relate. What she means by her poem is that she can't smile to men without it being understood as an "invitation", a flirt, she has to keep a rbf on, so her boundaries can be respected... I don't expect men to understand that.

Women aren't marginalised, especially not if they're slam poets. All they have to do is repeatedly rant about how bad they think men are and it doesn't matter how little talent they possess, they get a publication deal. The fact male poets can't do the reverse (though male poets have never wanted to) is a sign of female social privilege, and gross favouritism within the arts. These misandrist whiners are just spoiled rich girls doing something easy that they know they can get promoted for. That's all.

@reecehoward68488 жыл бұрын
Leslie Blanco Well A) Rape culture isn't actually a thing and anyone with a real understanding of the world can see that B) Sexual Assault doesn't need "speaking about", it needs ending C) Political and economical inequalities in the western world are practically non-existent these days. For every inequality in the western world that women face, there is an equal advantage they have over men. But you probably don't see that because you don't want to. Like Olivia here in the video, all she wants is to hate on the male gender - something Emma Watson herself has recognised as a problem as it is becoming synonymous with feminism. And ok, maybe that's not quite right - but, and there is no arguments about this, women objectify and "sexualise" themselves - not Men. Study reality and how the world actually works - and then we'll talk.

My bitch face is like a concrete wall - Flat, unwelcoming - you can look away, now, It's 7:59pm and I'm at the bus stop. It's cold and dark, and I shiver, Crossing my legs and arms to keep warm I've got earphones in, but to be honest There's nothing playing The last song played a while ago And I didn't notice I'm too busy avoiding eye-contact With the only other person on the platform My bitch face tells everyone I'm not prey My bitch face says, "I'm not in the mood," Says, "Don't fuck with me," Says it's been a long day Filled with the sort of Overly-bright smiles That say "Of course, I'm happy to help you!" And don't mention that Smiling is in my damn job description And I'm OFF SHIFT now, okay? I'm off shift and my cheeks still ache My bitch face says I'm in a shitty mood Doesn't say I'm a nice girl, I'm just tired and anxious and in pain

I typed out the full poem, if you want it. :) Ode To My Bitchface by Olivia Gatwood Pink lipstick, rebel, steel cheek, slit mouth, head to the ground, mean girl. You headphones in but no music. You house key turned blade. You quick step between street lights. Strainer of pricks and chest beaters. Laughter is a foreign language to your dry ice tongue. Resting bitch face is what they call you, but there is nothing restful about you, no. Lips like a flatlined heartbeat, panic at the sight of you, scream for their mothers, throat full of bees, head spun 360, exorcist bitch. Just trying to buy a soda. Just trying to do your laundry. Just trying to dance at the party and then someone asks you to smile, and the blood begins to riot. Smile, and chisel away at your own jaw. Smile, and you unleash the swarm into the mouth of a man who wants to swallow you whole. One theory is that you were born this way but I don't believe it. You came out screaming and alive and look at you now. Look at how you've learned to hid your teeth. What's wrong with your face, bitch. Your face, bitch. What's wrong with it. Bitch face, I don't blame you for taking the iron pipe from their hands and branding yourself with it. For making a flag out of your body bag. Another theory is that you put it on every morning, screw it tight like a jar of jelly, but I don't believe that either. You woke up like this and you have been for years. How can you sleep pretty when there are four locks on the door and the fire escape feels like break-in bait. They will tell you home is safe zone. No, bitch face is safezone. Bitch face is home. Bitch face is cutting off the ladder willing to burn in the apartment if it means he can't get in.

The point is that people have assumed that women are bitter or angry when we don't smile but really we have to have this armor against fuckboys and haters. people are taking it too literal using the actual stanzas and being like "I don't agree" when it's really a metaphor. if you let it go over your head then that's your fault the poem spoke what I think. So I relize that Olivia Gatwood has alot of mixed emotions when it comes to her work...I've only listened to a few of her poems, but I can already tell...when she makes a poem about herself, or how she thinks people see her, people revolt for example...this one, or her infamous HEY SCIENCE!..but when she makes something relatable, like "At the Owl" or "Directives", people praise her, and say her work can move mountains...well I do believe that you should be entitled to your opinion, but I personally don't think Olivia Gatwood thinks microwaves are sexist, or would be willing to die in a burning apparent so she can avoid sexual assult; however, I do believe that poetry taps into the inner subconscious mind, where fear and imagination rule...her use of words are constructing a story that blows thing out if proportion so that people get the message..but by doing that she loses people by them taking her too seriously. For instance I can infer from this poem is that she is writing an ode to her "bitch face" so that people relize it's not something that women(or anyone for that matter)do because they are unhappy, but because it is a natural defense mechanism, or a way to make herself seem more confident.

I have it , it's annoying how everyone asks if I'm okay when I'm really happy, when I take a nap I cover my face so people don't think I'm pissed

well I haven't seen hey science and I don't plan to, but can everyone remember that this is *poetry* and not every word is meant to be taken literally? I'm seeing a lot of comments bitching about things from "hey science" but it mostly seems to be because people are being too literal and specific, instead of understanding that A - some things aren't necessarily 1000% specific and B, some things may need a little abstract thinking. I mean damn, calm down.
