As a college professor and a parent of a soon to be college athlete this angers me. As an everyday person this angers me. She actually is very damn lucky that she hasn't been charged with a crime in this scheme. She had to sign the application to apply to the University . So she signed falsified papers to get into the school. But she gets to walk around pretending she is innocent.

I had said this so many times. The second she signed those papers and sent her transcript from high school in is the second she had participated in the scheme. I know some people who work go to school and play sports all the while getting good grades and still can't get into a top tier school. This girl will never learn as long as people who want to be famous for having no talent is a thing.

Teacher April absolutely infuriating! It’s all about access. If one is wealthy enough, and knows the right people, one can easily pay anyone of these many coaches and administrators who were in on the act, while the rest of society has to crack open their books , earn good grades the hard way, save money, build up that resume, and jump through practically fire lit hurtles to get scholarships and grants, before taking out those old albatrosses around the neck- expensive student loans. Sickening. To me, her case is even worse! Her parents just wanted bragging rights. She didn’t even go to class! She was on a yacht with the Dean instead of gracing her classmates with her presence in the room. This one has me fired up, obviously! Lol But I earned an Associates of Arts at a community college, and worked my tail off because I earned too much income as a hairdresser that I had to pay cash for everything. I worked all day, went to school, and studied nights and weekends. I’m proud of myself, and wouldn’t change my experience! To see these people manipulate the system though, really challenges my sense of justice and equity! Thanks for listening to my TedTalk, if you’re still here. 😡😂💖

Monica Williams I hope it’s a thing that goes away very soon, but sadly doubt it. I forgot the exact stat, but pollsters recently asked young kids what they wanted to be when they grew up. Of course some gave the usual pat answers; nurse, teacher, doctor, astronauts, but the vast majority, (don’t quote me, but I want to say over 70%) wanted to be KZbinrs! They had no idea how, or what, if any education was required, just a KZbinr. Even more than athletes! This famous for nothing trend is going nowhere fast. Thank goodness for Smokey Glow, and other KZbinrs who create thoughtful content. Maybe there is hope! Lol

I think what bothered me the most about all the people who were praising her was the fact that everyone was like, “omg what an iconic comeback queen 😍.” There is nothing iconic about what she did, and this proved that she has learned absolutely nothing from this situation, which I thought would have humbled her. Until she proves that she has changed, and until she proves that she will be remorseful enough to apologize to her fans, then I don’t think that she should be privileged enough to have a following in which she can influence other people. It just makes me wonder where her PR team is, since we all know she has one, because this post just made her look like an entitled brat who doesn’t care about how her scholarship negatively effected and impacted so many potential USC crew team members.

@@PW-yv3sc you clearly don't understand the principle of this. what they did was illegal, unethical, and immoral. they stole a spot from somebody else who could have used it, they lied about qualifications, and the girl doesn't even give a shit about being in college clearly by her attitude and the things that she's said herself in her own videos. it's just all about status. if you don't see the core problems with that then you also are demented and have some kind of problem with how you view the world. just because somebody is rich does not mean they get to do whatever they want by any means necessary. that's not how things work in a civilized society.

I feel so fortunate to live in Australia where we don't have a Tiered University system... some are "better" than others if you're in a cut throat industry, but they're all based purely on academic merit (with alternative access pathways for disadvantaged students) and the costs of University are set, regardless of which school you go to.
@ramblerjam

Mmm, pretty sure we have a lot of spaces prioritised for students who pay, we've had some controversies over high fee-paying students and cheating. You only hear about it when it's the students from overseas (we charge extra high amounts for those students), though I'm sure it happens with the kids from the high rolling private schools being funneled in, too.
@vihaze6725
@vihaze6725 5 жыл бұрын
As someone who went to a high rolling private school, I can confirm that. We went on special 'excursions' to the top universities where we were given private tours and introduced to the people who ran the place - especially if they were alumni from our school. We were also specifically instructed to put our school's name on our applications, because the admissions team would 'know what it meant'.
@empod
@empod 5 жыл бұрын
ramblerjam ramblerjam i don’t know how they would prioritize space for students who pay because everyone pays... and the uni doesn’t know how you’re going to pay until you’re enrolled. If you’re talking about full-fee vs commonwealth supported (which is govt subsidized) both are still eligible for HECS loans.
@empod
@empod 5 жыл бұрын
Vi Haze maybe it works differently in other states but in QLD all university admissions are done through a central organization, not directly to the university.
@ramblerjam
@ramblerjam 5 жыл бұрын
@@empod actually they do know - you apply for a commonwealth supported place or a full fee paying place. Apparently they are phasing that system out now (i don't know exactly how the changes work but apparently the govt is taking measures to ensure universities can no longer reject a commonwealth supported student in place of a full fee paying one in grad courses) but it has been that way as long as i remember. International students also have their own specific applications and higher fees than full fee paying domestic students. We do seem less susceptible to corruption than US colleges, except with our private high ed institutions of course, but we're not totally egalitarian either.

I’m so glad you randomly popped up on my feed. Girl, you are a voice of reason! Truthfully, it gives me hope that all this influencer social media BS is a phase, just like most every other “popular” thing that comes along. When normal people start to make sensical videos and posts, it builds momentum. It just seems worse than it is because the influencers have a bigger platform. As a parent of very small children, I intend to monitor what my kids are into and continuously remind them that celebrities (especially social media influencers) are more than likely not genuine and are not to be copied. I have a super normal not famous at all life and I LOVE IT. So many more important things in life than fame and money. Lol I feel like old person FB with the length of this comment.

Girl I WISH this was your world and you controlled everything that goes on because everything you say I agree with. You are so intelligent and look at things from multiple angles and I admire you ❤️

I hope more people watch your channel & hear this point of view. I feel like a lot of younger people these days would think that was “iconic” when it’s immature and disrespectful.

So I'm a rower but I'm European so I don't really know how uni works in the U. S. But since she took the spot of a real rower I suppose that means that the coach ruined a WHOLE boat (generally I think unis have big boats like eights) since there's a person missing???? Like what type of coach does that???

They probably stated she never “made” a boat. In the USA, you have to compete for seats on a boat. There are folks on the team that don’t always get to compete.

Natalie Barnes I agree with this about 98% of the time. And with situations like this, hit them where it hurts - bank account. Welcome to the world of us peasants. Make yourself at home, you crooks. 😂👊😂

Pisses me off. My daughter's worked their asses off since the day they started kindergarten to get scholarships into big schools. They did it and are still working hard to keep the scholarship and place in these top ten schools. Not only first to go to college but from high school to a four year University! Moms proud and starting school herself in September!
