In my perspective of the show, Fitz was apparently the love of her life and Jake was her soulmate. Personnally, i prefer her relationship with Jake, it was more touching, complex and interesting. Olitz's relationship was more like an addiction.

I think both Fitz and Jake are an addiction for Olivia in the same way she is to them, however with Jake i feel she was able to experience more of a totality of a relationship rather than living for stolen moments like she did with Fitz. With Jake Olivia was more of herself, more honest about her feelings, her wants, fears...there was a freedom and comfort to be vulnerable that Jake gave her an for that i appreciate him in Olivia's life. When with him her laughter was at its most beautiful. With Fitz, whilst i don't doubt her love, she never really knew him or experienced the full him until the last season one he was both free from Mellie and the White House, its a shame we never got to see more of what a Fitz who is not president is like and what that relationship is now with Olivia...hopefully if they do a spin-off their relationship will be explored further now that Olivia isn't the mistress and is free from the shadows.

As much as I was a Olitz in the beginning when Jake arrived I instantly became Olake. Olivia loved Fitz, but I think for most of it, it was the how their relationship was forbidden that made it more intense. While with Jake she was herself and in it for them.

@ÄKTA-MÄNNISKOR 06 she did try to save Jake from her father and that is what Jake fans mistook for love. She had never once said to Jake that she loved him. In fact, she told him on several occasions that she not only loved Fitz she was in love with him. Through the dark periods of her journey, Fitz remained her guiding light even when Jake tried to manipulate her into thinking otherwise. It is a beautiful story if the Olakers stop to think about it. Jake was one in many obstacles she had to overcome. I know Shonda put us through a lot of undesirable things and an undesirable ending but the story is nonetheless beautiful.

They were always gonna be the endgame. Jake always needed her to save him from her father. He was married twice on the show. First wife was killed by Rowan because she was sent to kill him and then he kill his second wife at the end. He was always under the control of her dad. Everything Cyrus said, Mellie said and even David said to him in the end was true he was always somebody's second choice or bitch

Shonda Rhimes said repeatedly that Scandal was not a love story so there was no relationship that Olivia was meant to be in. And that was made clear. Olivia's greatest love was power. I don't share your sentiment though that Olivia never loved Jake. I know many people hang their hat on her never saying the words to him, but love is in the action. She showed her love for Jake repeatedly and often. I do agree that Jake, or anyone, could never take Fitz's place in Olivia's heart though. That love was cemented. Wrong and toxic and obsessive as it was, there is no questioning the love Liv and Fitz had for each other. In regards to the end though, that was terribly written. I was deeply unhappy with those final episodes. There was nothing satisfying about Jake being the only one to go down for all they did. The only gratifying part was that even in that moment, locked up, while everyone else went free, he wanted to make sure Olivia knew that he was good and that loving her was the best part of his life.

If you look at season 7 when Olivia became command and she was summoned to her dad's house about Quinn she told him that he took away the only man she ever loved. She pointed out to him that he killed his son so who is she talking about Fitz. She has admitted to having feelings for Jake yes but she has always considered him family but she's only ever loved Fitz. As far as the Olitz relationship being toxic it didn't have to be. Olivia made it toxic because of her abandonment issues and how she allowed outside people to manipulate and get in her head instead of following her heart. Her own father had to admit in season 6 when Fitz had Rowan arrested that Olivia loves Fitz to his face. He had to come to the realization that this wasn't just some love affair that his daughter is in love with this man Fitz. When Olivia became command who did Eli go to all the way in Vermont to have save her not Jake he was working for her. He went to Fitz because he is her weakness which is love in the world of power. Olivia wasn't always power hungry that's what her father wanted her to be and that's why they had a dysfunctional relationship always bumping heads. Her fixing and saving people was compensating for what she didn't have until she met Fitz unconditional normal real love. At the end she was no longer saving and fixing people anymore. She did not have to. Yes it's fucked up that Jake was the only one that went down but he needs to pay for killing three innocent people and his own wife. Taking down Cyrus takes them allllll down. Jake really had no family just Olivia and Rowan so he was content with going to jail
