It's more like, she sees herself on the girl, she's kinda happy yet sad seeing the girl on the first part, probably she had already accepted that the guy has a new girl, but then as she keeps on seeing that indeed the girl is going on the same path as her, she destroyed everything cause she doesn't want to see the girl experience the same thing as her. Then, she left that one last tv where this other girl is driving alone much like what Olivia did in the beginning, which may symbolized that the process repeated again but on another girl this time, plus she sang that "do you get deja vu part" which is think is directed to the guy. Olivia said in a couple interviews now that this is a made up storyline but that it had to do with looking at an exs new relationship and realizing that hes pulling all the same stuff with the new girl that he did with her. Basically mocking him, that hes predictable. She also said that for the music video she was inspired by one of her fave shows "killing eve" which is prob where the stalker vibes come in lol

So lyrically, Olivia is talking about her ex doing the same things he did with her now in a new relationship. While the music video also hints at this same concept, it seems to go in deeper. Yeah, she's witnessing the new relationship resemble her own, but that means she's observing the new girl. She's inevitably comparing herself to the new one, but what she reveals in the chorus part of the video, the new girl is waving back and also observing Olivia from behind the beach rocks. They're both literally observing each other, potentially comparing themselves to eachother, and seeing their past, present, and future in eachother. The concept of time in the concept of Deja Vu solidifies this. The end, with the new girl driving down the same road hints at the new girl's inevitable destiny one day post breakup reminiscing.

I think this video is her indirectly talking to her ex saying “Do you get deja vu because your new girl is oddly similar to me” She talks about him using the stuff they did together and reusing it on the new girl. this video is showing that the person she's talking about does the same things in current relationships that they used to do together first (i.e. olivia driving to "their place" in the beginning of the video, after they broke up, and finding a new girl there). In the end of the video the same girl is driving to the same place, since she's the new ex who's about to see this guy in a new relationship but still taking the new girl to the usual spot, showing them the same music, saying the same jokes etc. it's basically making it a loop :)

Subscribed. I really like this format, it's interesting to see discussions with each other about the song, and it captured my thoughts when I first listened to the song really well. In an interview she was saying how she was struggling to complete a song and so she gave her producer a single line to work off of ("Do you get deja vu when she's with you?"), and they created this song from that single line. The premise of the song is that she's seeing all these things her ex is doing with his new girlfriend, and thinking back on her relationship with him, realizing that he's doing it all again with his new girlfriend. Seeing this, she realizes that her previous relationship wasn't nearly as special to her ex as it was to her.
