Olivia actually mentioned in an interview that the subject matter is fiction even tho it’s super specific. She wanted to capture this universal feeling of seeing ur ex repeat the relationship you thought was special (she obviously worded it much better) and only used these specificities to enhance the narrative she was trying to portray (and she obviously did a wonderful job) but there’s a good chance some of the emotions she was feeling helped inspire this type of song writing. i was waiting for your reaction! i definitely didn’t expect this sound from her, specifically the production really threw me off but now that i’ve listened to it way more i love it. i am crossing my fingers the exception made it to the album since she didn’t unarchive it on her instagram!
