This song fits so well when your “best friend” is taking advantage of you. Mine only reaches out when she needs help, but when i need help, she always gets annoyed. I go to the bathroom with her when she asks me to, I was there with her when a jerk broke her heart, i let her borrow my stuff(she doesn’t return them until i ask for them). We’re in a trio and she always hangs out with the other friend. I’ve known both of them before they even knew each other. Now I always walk behind them, they always left me out, i can only talk and have fun with the other friend when she’s not around. I do almost everything for her, yet she doesn’t seem to see it. I don’t really have friends growing up. I give all of my friends my all, but they don’t even seem to care. I’ve done so many things only to make friends, but it doesn’t work. "Dan & I wrote “favorite crime” sometime last summer I think. I had “Know I loved you so bad I let you treat me like that” written in my notes app for a while & it sort of sparked the entire song. I really love how the song is one big metaphor. Figurative language was something I had to work on in my songwriting. WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THE LAST LINE "I hope I was your favorite crime Cause baby you were mine " This line seems to imply that she's taking responsibility for the pain she might have caused but is also admitting that even though it was a disaster it still meant something to her (Throughout the song she says that she hopes that it also meant something to the other person ) This line just leveled up the song for me.
