I came up with a theory years ago that the reason for asking people to get into the brace position during an emergency is basically because upon impact the stress it would put on your head and spine is very likely to cause sudden death as your spine would completely crack? and that way if there are fewer people that survive the crash, it means fewer people are going to will sue the air company for compensation. If I'm right in thinking, an air company cannot cover damages for loss of lives but can cover for injury!!
