I haven't read Red Scholar's Wake yet (it's a scifi romance) but I've read other standalone books set in Bodard's Xuya universe, like 'Tea Master and The Detective', and 'Seven of Infinities', and the sentient spaceships in these books are definitely not AI, but I feel explaining more would be a spoiler for the world-building.

I actually just got the book "The Adventures of Amina al-Sirah" it was my Book of the Month pick but your book is more beautiful than the one I got....mine is just plain Jane (no offense against anyone named Jane). I mainly a Cozy Mystery reader but I use to read quite a bit of Fantasy and decided to get into one and this one sounded so good so I just had to get it. I use to watch Ghost Adventures too...lol and I stopped watching when they started doing stupid stuff. ✌
