I had the privilege of attending an Olivier Latry recital at the organ rededication of the organ at the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Saint Paul MN. I sat 10 rows back got to see the magic of Mr Latry up close. Wow!!

OMG are those speaking pipes? I used to work for an organ builder. I would have NO idea how a shop could make a metal pipe like that.
@timothytikker11479 ай бұрын
They were 3D printed.
@henrikheikkinen9 ай бұрын
They are not speaking pipes unfortunately, they are 3d printed biocomposite material if i recall correctly
@perttirasilainen11426 ай бұрын
@@timothytikker1147 They were / are NOT 3d printed. Only that part of a pipe which is only a tube - is. That part which make that actual sound is normal handcraft and made of normal material; organ-metal. 'Biocomposite' is not a material; it is only a mixture of two or more materials where at least one has that relation to something 'living', organic, bios. In those certain pipes that bio-part is wood-particles from Rauma-Repola.

Very good & sensible comment. Actually, that kind of a 'wow-facade' is this tiktok-'culture' we - unfortunately - have now. Like buildings in which the roof doesn't hold water outside. 👎

If you know something about Finland, its composers, painters, writers, architects, sculptors, then you know this organ fits like a glove.
@perttirasilainen1142Ай бұрын
Actually - I know pretty much of all those you mentioned. But I can not see any relation between that Rieger-instrument and Finnish composers, architects, sculptors etc.

Sounds like he can't get through BWV 541 or Cantata 29 quick enough, meanwhile the Widor Allegro V was four square and lifeless in parts. Widor 5 is a wonderful emotional rollercoaster in sensitive hands.. Enjoyed the tempo of the Toccata, quite a mixed bag!

Latrie plays inauguration concerts all over the world. Sometimes, unfortunately, his exceptional playing routine may sound insensitive to some. Here also the different hall accoustics compared with church acoustics may seem dry. However, I enjoyed every bit of it.

Unfortunately the editor had ruthlessly cut off the audience applauds. It would have been nice to capture some of the atmosphere, which I imagine was quite exceptional. There is no virtue in making a concert recording resemble a studio recording. Quite commendable sound quality in the recording, though. Thanks, YLE. Thanks, Rieger.
@henrikheikkinen9 ай бұрын
My apologies. I purposefully cut them because I thought some of the applauds were quite long and would distract the performance itself. Many were also overlined with the radio host talking over the applaud itself, thus there being no complete applauds. So I thought it would be best to cut them fully.
@whyhumanityisdoomed9 ай бұрын
Apologies accepted 😉 maybe version 2, with some audience noice... I quite understand if all of it is too much. And I'm certainly not missing any presenter comments. Regards, Janos Garam.

@@henrikheikkinen pitää lisätä vähän triviaa. Yleisön taputukset väärässä paikassa on osa hupia.

Shame on you @GundulaRach for denouncing such an ultimate craftmanship as Olivier´s and for being so little familiar with French Art, meaning: outward understatement and inner superiority, true French artists simply do not give in to cheap circus artistry, instead they adhere to true craftmanship in the same way as their great predecessor Johann Sebastian Bach: do you really think he was a circus monkey?
