I love this. As a recent fan of wildlife photography, I can feel your frustration when missing the shots!! Those little buggers are definitely a challenge to capture if you’re not fast/stealthy enough. Part of the reason I like shooting predator birds instead, they don’t scare as easy 😂

With your extra-long lens and dual-hand gripping, it makes your photography feel like hunting! (Everyone loses subjects, I am an amateur and I also lose them constantly. I think the average natural perch-fly-perch rhythm is just barely too short to get the camera trained and focused, but it sometimes feels like maybe they see the camera lens or the focusing laser as one big eye and flee out of instinct.)

Thanks Ollie! I really enjoyed that. I am one of those aspiring photographers who can’t get out into nature right now (recovering from surgery and unable to lift the camera or big lens)- so it’s lovely to see it through your pov. Thank you for the nature fix.

Sorry to hear about that but have you thought about micro four thirds? The lens sizes are tiny in comparison to aps-c and ff equivalents, my Oly E-m5iii and Oly 14-150 setup weighs short of 600g and has focal length of 28-300mm.

@@KelpandFern I’ve had shoulder surgery (a complex rotator cuff tendon repair + biceps muscle repair & some bones shaved) so I’m unable to move my left arm away from my body for 6wks- then 6months of physio to slowly build the muscle up again. Thanks for the tip though-a lighter set up was was something I considered. But I’d rather invest the money in better glass for my existing system for when I can get back out and about.

first of all, great video! see you calling yourself stupid for failing its just not fair, the reason why you fail its because you are human, and that is inevitable, and its the same reason of the success of your work, which is amazing, your way to explain, the places you go and the photography its just amazing. don't be like that with yourself, keep failing its the only way to avoid to fail in the future, you are not stupid, you are an excellent photographer! 👏

Great video man! POV is so fun and "easy" to make. Go out, grab you action-camera, press record and just shoot. I relate so much to the self-critisism about missing the shots because of stupid mistakes. I'm relatively new to wildlife in general, but I felt every bit of pain watching this. But as you say, that's how it is being a wildlife-photographer! Great video again, Olle! Always looking forward to your uploads! 👏
@harrison00xXx

The good thing about "stupid mistakes".... you can correct them with knowledge and more attention. Still, more often than not, the unexpected situations which you are not prepared for give you the best results if you manage to get them. At least all of my "best shots" were unexpected situations Whats more annoying when it comes to widllife and long focal lengths, which i feel very much since i "downgraded" from Full Frame to APS-C with a Canon RF 800 F11 as main/hiking lens (aka 1280mm!)... finding the birds in the viewfinder. But its so awesome to find a good shot with 1280mm, do some photos and then switch into 4k60 crop video mode for 2000mm which is just incredible long for its small size.
