I have watched you ever since I started my undergrad knowing that I want to do Medicine and I can't believe that I've just submitted my UCAS - these three years have gone so so quickly!! Just a point on the funding for GEM - as a Northern Ireland domiciled student, Student Finance NI doesn't provide any tuition fee funding for GEM and the NHS bursary doesn't cover us either so we still have to pay the £9,250 for any GEM courses. For this reason, I have applied to the A100 course in Queens, Belfast as despite being longer, it is actually cheaper for me to study there rather than study grad entry. Not sure if that helps or is news to anyone but thought I would just comment that!

Granted medical school for me was in the 1980s but my observation on them is people underestimate how skilled they ( the medical school)are at training you into becoming a doctor where no part of the patients body or mind is deemed inaccessible to your probing and how they give you the skills to build trust from the patients and their families

I don't disagree Dr Matthews! (I'm an F2/SHO for reference now). I am of the opinion that medical education has become too divorced from clinical sciences a bit now, with too great a focus on soft skills. Interesting landscape and things are rapidly changing.

With the NHS bursary for A100 generally as far as im aware you dont get any funding until 5th year, you dont receieve tuition fee support but you can get maintenance loans from Student finance which you can use toward your tuition fees, generally outside of london its like 5-6k and in london you can get around 9k maintenance but bear in mind you dont receieve anything else? so if you choose to use your maintenance for tuituon fees you need to find more money for living and if youre living in accomodation it can be virtually impossible without taking out extra loans

I had no idea that a graduate applicant doing an A100 wouldn't get funding from Student Finance. That is incredibly important as I've applied to Exeter as one of mine and if I got hit with that fact out of nowhere I would have been floored...Thank you so much for mentioning that. At least now I can try to possibly prepare around this if I get accepted there.

Yeah it's a big hit, and one that I feel isn't really explained until you start digging around. People definitely are able to make the 5 year programmes work as graduate applicants, it just comes with its own set of challenges.

Hi there, thanks so much! If you have a nursing degree it certainly does, as only an undergraduate degree is required! It does not count towards the volunteering/experience hour requirements I believe as they specify that has to be work for which you aren't paid - hope that helps!

I would suggest contacting different unis and asking - if you don't have a science degree then St Georges, Warwick, Newcastle, Swansea, Southampton, Cambridge and Nottingham may be open to you (some depending on earlier results)

Hello, do you know the acceptance statistics at warwick GEM for international students? Im doing a BSc in biology at mcgill university and i want to apply to warwick. I have the requirements covered but im not sure how likely international applicants are to get accepted!

We usually just have one or two every year but I'm not quite sure why this is! I suspect it's because the fees are so high, but we certainly do have international students most years (if not every year)

@@OllieBurtonMed one or two seats would be hopeless for me. They would definitely get taken by some PhD or Masters students with 40/4.0 GPA... Though I read on a third party website somewhere that it was 13 seats for internationals. That would be much more hopeful for me. I will be sending my application once I do the UCAT anyway, and hopefully I get lucky. I have a bit of cool work/volunteer experience in Syria which might help me. Anyway do you know if any other GEM programs are more likely to accept internationals? As I understand it warwick has the only large GEM program (all the others are sub 50 seats TOTAL) so it really is my only realistic option

@@youssefsammouh501 As far as I understand it's a level playing field though once you meet the minimum requirements, and my course actually has very few PhD holders so higher degrees really can't contribute much to the overall weighting. I'm unfortunately not familiar with what the other programmes are like re international students

Ollie I have a 6.9 /10.... Greek Uni Physio Dehree 4years instead of 7/10 that it is minimum Requirement.... such a shame

Could you do a masters? I think some medical schools (warwick, st georges and maybe others) allow a 2.2 (guessing that's equivalent) if you have a masters at merit or distinction. Good luck!

Random question but do Warwick make accommodations for people who don't drive? Or is public transport sufficient to get around?

They don't make accommodations as such - although they recommend clinical partner pairs where one drives and one doesn't etc. Public transport is honestly quite good if a tiny bit unreliable, which I suppose is true in most places. But ultimately anyone can be sent anywhere
