I am a veterinary student but find your videos interesting to learn about the differences between human and veterinary medicine (and many of the similarities). A lot of your advice is also applicable to veterinary speciality training. Currently I am most interested in neurology internship and then residency (which also includes neurosurgery). I also find interventional radiology very interesting but so far in veterinary this is mainly limited to treating congenital cardiac diseases. Good luck for your applications!

I found your channel and I'm so happy to watch your videos since I am in the process of applying to NHS as an IMG. I hope you get accepted to the post of your choice and please keep posting (although I understand the lack of time). Good luck! And really appreciate your content.

Could you make more video recommendations for medical books like you did before? It was very helpful.

Hello Dr Burton, thank you for uploading this informative video. Considering the ever changing landscape of medical science and wider scientific disciplines. Pertaining neuroscience I would like to ask, your opinion on the adoption of, algorithm base medical devices to treatment CNS issues? such as: neurolink, the "digital bridge" (an surgical implant the connections the brain and spinal cord below the site of a spinal cord injury), and treatment of chronic pain through nerve cooling.

Why do neurosurgeons get paid less than physician associates (assistants) and nurse "consultants"?

Any predictions for how training will change - more people undergoing CESR and so more departments willing to do so? Do you think CESR will become more popular with local graduates, especially for the more competitive specialties?

I think we will see an inevitable increase in home-grown training processes that work towards CESR yes - there will be no way to meet shortfall if the govt refuses to expand training posts. Which is something I note they never really discuss with the public, but is deliberate.

@@OllieBurtonMed Thank you, swift and thought out reply as usual. The government seems to want to pay and make doctors have the worst possible job at the moment - I hope this improves by the time I get to apply for training, otherwise I won’t be a consultant till my mid 40s. Do you think the issue with a lack of consultant posts in some specialties will get better or worse in the future, as although those specialties have decreased the number of NTNs, this may cause those who want that specialty but did not get an NTN to instead go down the CESR route?

I am aiming for neurosurgery aswell. Teaching experience/Medical education is something I feel is hard to obtain full points on in portfolio assessment, so is there any advice? Also does master's degree in surgical science or neuroscience have enough impact to increase my chances in Neurosurgery? Finally, If i have 1 year resident experience in multiple positions (general surgery, thoracic.. Etc) in my country and then I do Fy2 stand alone in UK does this mean I cannot do anymore neurosurgery?

@@Propofol1234 because I love the technical part of it. I won't be able to go to the UK until i graduate in 1 year also I am planning a to do a master's before that either in medical education or in Surgical science.
