Olly Alexander Explains Why Years & Years Became A Solo Project | Capital

On 18 March, Years & Years announced that Olly Alexander would be taking the band on as a solo project, after Emre and Mikey stepped down.
When the It's A Sin star joined Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, Olly explained why they decided to make this move.
"Me, Mikey and Emre met, like, ten years ago," said the 'Starstruck' singer. "We've been in this band for a decade, and in that time, we've just kind of grown apart musically."

I will miss them together but I respect their decision and I hope the best for all them! I’ve been a fan since 2016 but I’ve sadly never seen them live... excited to see how olly grows in the future with his solo music though!!

Years and Years was my childhood. I thought it was just Olly until I watched the music video for Jax Jones "Play", a collab with Years and Years. That was the moment when I realised it was a group. I respected that. So when I heard that Olly was going solo, I was happy to know that the lie that I once believed, was indeed true. Olly's solo. 🥳😁

Nah it was just creative differences really. Tbh Panic was never the same when Ryan Ross left. I loved their first two albums but they sounded generic after that. Ryan really was the mind and soul behind PATD.
